Why Do OzBargainers Gripe about Deals That Are Not as Good as Previous Deals?

I've seen countless deals where people downvote or complain persistently because the current product sale is marginally more than a previous sale from a while ago.

It's not like we have time machines to go back to the cheaper deal lol. Why cling to the past?

a penny saved is a penny earned

    • and girls is like horses, when you fall down, it's important you get back up again, on a different horse.

Some products regularly go on special so it's fair to reference it's past price

      This^

Common examples of ozbargain favourites that typically go on sale at least once every 4 weeks or more meaning it’s good to reference past deals to gauge impulse buy:

      *RM comfort craftsman’s
      *jabra 65t/75t
*lego (especially the pirate ship or thanos glove)
*apple goods especially laptops or airpods
      *philips air fryers
*external hard drives (especially the Samsung ssd one)

Example of more ‘seasonal’ deals which may be worth holding out for if not on special

*telstra $59/month with $500 gc at jb

Don’t agree with random negs though

I think it's only fair to neg if it's materially cheaper elsewhere at a point in time. Otherwise it's just a comment noting the case.

No, but we all have access to OzBargain search facility, so a quick price history check is a lot easier than writing a pointless thread about it

    Any examples?

      Bunnings drone pricing error?

      • Not really what OP is griping about.

  • Ahh, the 'Good old days' when things were better and cheaper.

Maybe it's because we like to live in the past because we don't want to deal with the present?

because in a functioning free market economy, things are supposed to get cheaper…….. not more expensive.

we have neither of those things. things have never been more rigged. unfortunately, we're all living in the neoliberal globalist lying shithead era, where theres always a 2+2=5 excuse for everything! because people can't even process the rampant inflation of the entire social contract thats been happening in plainsight over the last 10-20 years… and its turned every business & asset class into a nintendo product… miraculously their profits keep going up, and their production costs get cheaper, but somehow their prices never come down!!

its a double joke with a lot of things that are "digital" in the purchase chain as well, which further increases profit by removing past associated "analog", "bricks & mortar" style costs, and that products are generally made even worse. its not a 'lets talk about the good old days' thing… we're being (profanity).

  • Because just like everything in life.
    It's all relative.

If we were in a perfectly happy place free from criticism with rules against notifying others of previous better deals you'd end up with Ozbargain filled with spam posts and no real moderation.
The Ozbargain democracy works to an extent because of this.

        You're back!

  • You know what's crazy, there hasn't been a good post for a PS4 Slim or Pro in 2 years. What a world we live in.

    (Covid, Next gen, chip shortage.)

  • Technology, in particular, should head down in price over time. Retailers like Coles/Woolies/Amazon typically will price groceries in cycles.

I think it's very fair to reference previous deals (have been downvoted for mentioning so) - especially given popular items as opposed to good deals get voted to the front page.

  • It can be helpful/valuable for high ticket items like OLEDs when the current sale is say $3500 but last week it was $2999 if I was In the market to buy one again I would of seen the comments and held off until it was around that pricing or better..

And is it really a sale or bargain if it's a higher sale price than last time too ??
