FYI, just because both the speed and the latency count.

    Speed: 3600 MHz
    Latency: 18-22-22-42

    • i have a 5950x and have 16gb 3200mhz at the moment. Want to go up to 32gb. Shall i get 32gb of 3200mhz or 3600mhz. The latency is slower on the 3600mhz.

      Mainly for gaming at 4k.

Which ram set would you recommend?

For gaming (with Ryzen), I recommend you stay with 2 DIMMs setup, unless you are willing to go all quality DIMMs such as Samsung B-die modules. The reason is the Ryzen CPU memory controller isn't great at handling 4 DIMMs so there is very high chance you will need to drop the command rate from 1T to 2T. There is a good reason why those memory speed test reviews on Ryzen all used 2 DIMMs. Also, there is no quad channel support for consumer grade Ryzen boards (so it is still dual channel).

If you must go up to 4 DIMMs setup and B-die modules are out of your budget, then be aware that it's quite likely you will need to drop the command rate and/or memory timing. Ryzen with 2 DIMMs setup is quite pleasant and relatively trouble free. 4 DIMMs, you MUST do long memory test to confirm (booting Windows is not enough to prove the RAM modules are working correctly, especially for 4 DIMMs on a Ryzen based system). I know Micron E die is quite popular, but I am not certain you can run 4 DIMMs at 1T command rate with their DDR4-3600 CL16 (hoping you could, but need someone to confirm). 2 DIMMs, even Micron-E DDR4-3200 can easily run at DDR4-3600 with 1T.

For gaming on 4K, it is really the GPU that matters the most. You don't gain much even from that top notch CPU, let alone memory.

        • Yah. I've been tempted to go 3600cl14 instead of my existing 3200cl18-20-20. I only game at 4k. I keep having to stop myself as i figure I'll get no gains

@justtoreply: Yeah, those charts on the reviews are tempting. However, unless you are a gamer with a top notch graphics card and have a 1080p/240fps or better monitor, then what you really gain is minimal.

If you prefer 2K or 4K gaming, you really don't gain much (4K - it is so GPU bound). As for general usage, some apps run better with lower latency RAM whereas some apps run better with higher memory frequency RAM, but the margin we are talking about is so small. Also, with DDR5 on the horizon (and is already being used in Apple M1 (LPDDR5), except the way Apple quoting memory bandwidth is cheeky and some reviewers are clueless and hyped it up so much, Apple basically quoting the same way GPU makers are doing - i.e. memory size x bandwidth so of course M1 Max with double the RAM has double the bandwidth of M1 Pro), I am not sure further investing on DDR4 is wise. The drop in DDR4 prices sure is tempting though.

        • I'm using 4x8GB DDR4 crucial ballistix RGB 3600MT/s CL16 sticks on a MSI B450 Mortor and now a MSI B550 Mortor Ryzen 3700X stock XMP.

Rock solid no issues for over a year. Not a single crash.

          • @vid_ghost: Good to know Micron E DDR4-3600 CL16 are good with 4 DIMMs setup. I think some people reported trying to overclock it and even that worked.

Main reason to mention to watch out 4 DIMMs is that my experience with Hynix 4 DIMMs was rather unpleasant. I wouldn't count on these being Micron E and he currently has DDR4-3200 so with 4 DIMMs, we are probably looking at DDR4-3200. Thing is, I had a lot of issue with Hynix DDR4-3200 (Kingston, but Hynix RAM chips). 2 DIMMs all fine, 4 DIMMs, struggled even with DDR4-3200. Got fed up and switched to Micron E.

            • @netsurfer: Micron E loves AMD… i've had issued with 3000Mhz CL16 Gskill trident Z ( Hynx i think ) running 4 sticks on the same system.. its 99% stable only and thats stock XMP settings

That being said… NEW 2021 hynx ddr4 3200 CL16 ram like Gskill ripjaw V 4x16GB sticks run rock solid.. 64GB total.. i have that too

i think the older chips are not as compatible

  • Can I mix this with my 3000mhz modules?

    • It will only run at 3000mhz and u wasted ur money on the 600mhz

      • +1

But the 3000mhz costs more lol

        • RAM and SSD price has come down significantly.

        • Ryzen based system, you could be in for a surprise. Your DDR4-3000 could really struggle (well, it is the memory controller in Ryzen being quite picky). There is a strong possibility you cannot even run DDR4-3000 without slowing down the timing further. DDR4-3000, pretty sure you will have to slow the command rate from 1T to 2T if you go for 4 DIMMs.

Strongly advise against mixing if you want to go 4 DIMMs. You will essentially be dealing with what the weakest set is capable of under 4 DIMMs setup.

  • Any deals on crucial ballistix RGB 3600 cl16 16gb ram.

  • If i want to use 5700g, this or 4000mhz ram?

    • Without a dedicated GPU? Then why bother chasing high speed memory? You need a top notch graphics card and run at 1080p (with a high refresh rate monitor) to notice the difference (and honestly, you probably need the fps counter to tell).

Price seems decent on this set. No point chasing DDR4-4000 as the infinity fabric cannot go above ~3700 so 3600 is generally considered the sweet spot.

  • good price

  • Good price indeed. The Low profile version is RGB SL is also available at the same price, i got that for an ITX build.

  • If my ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING motherboard doesn't have this listed under the supported memory list, whats the worst that can happen? CMG16GX4M2D3600C18 isn't listed.

    • Worst thing is that you need to use slower timing (or if you couldn't be bothered, the conservative XMP profile, normally these RAM modules have 2 XMP profiles, but that conservative XMP profile might be way too conservative).

If your setup is 2 DIMMs, there is a good chance these will work fine. The timing isn't very aggressive for DDR4-3600. However, at this price, there is a possibility of getting Hynix RAM chips, so if you are thinking about overclocking it, there might not be much room for that. That's purely a guess though (the actual RAM chips in these). 4 DIMMs on Ryzen isn't very straightforward (especially if you don't have quality RAM modules).

If you cannot resist the price and that DDR4-3600 tag, then I guess you could go for it. If I am really in the market for DDR4-3600, I would go for something with better timing than CL18 (RAM frequency isn't everything, the latency matters too).

      • TBH I would literally slap it onto the motherboard, turn on XMP, and then leave it. No over clocking, but I did read that for AMDs having DDR4 3600mhz is good for 1:1 with the CPUs. I am only going to run 2 DIMMs, 8gb x 2, 16gb total. Technically Scorptec is selling supported RAM but at $149 /sad lol
