Is the iPhone 12 mini battery life as bad as they say? I know it is a smaller battery compared to the 12 and Pro but under 'normal' use if you can't get 5-6 hours then it's a deal breaker for me. When I say 'normal' use, I mean say 6 calls/d, 1-2 hours of (social media) apps + browsing, some camera usage - but no gaming or anything intensive. Could be a how long it is piece of string question but I just don't want to be too disappointed with a $1000 outlay. Any thoughts?

Google, and the specs. I felt 2227 mAh is a fair bit on the low side.
2227 mAh
You need to know the energy consumption otherwise the battery size cannot be used to determine battery life.
I have the 12 mini and find the battery life more than fine. I’d say for that use case you would will be sweet. One thing to consider is getting the 13 mini as it has a bigger battery?
It can last a whole day for light use imo. Definitely stay away from gaming or anything too intensive, like video shooting. I do tend to carry a battery bank around if I think I'm going to be using my 12 Mini a lot as well.
Coming from larger Android phones, I've noticed my 12 Mini definitely does drain much faster, even when using Messenger or dark mode. Although lots of people say iOS is more optimised than Android, you're still dealing with a battery that is less than half the size of typical Android phones these days.
Is it really that much of a difference, in terms of battery capacity?
I have the 12 Mini and it isn't an issue. I carry a charging cable around just in case but only really need to charge at 7 to 8pm.
As long as you aren't planning to watch streams and play online games all the time it's more than fine. The 13 mini lasts about 1.5 hours longer due to higher efficiency chips if you're still worried. .
Thanks all. Got talked into the 13. Got an amazing deal. I managed to negotiate $0 off the asking price!
I went from an SE 2020 to an iPhone 12 mini. Definitely an improvement in battery life, never had to charge it before bed time until I ported back to Telstra late last month because of 5G. I would consider myself a fairly heavy user but have been on wifi a lot lately because of WFH. Will probably have to switch off 5G eventually as my battery health degrades.
