Upgrading Our Smoke Alarms

Following on from: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/628491

The Qld government is mandating that all existing private homes, townhouses and units will require photoelectric interconnected smoke alarms. These must be either a hardwired (eg. 240v) or non-removable 10 year battery powered type alarm.

Anyone have any ideas which are the best?

  • I have an investment property in QLD and I got Emerald alarms fitted. Cannot really say if they are better than other brands as they have only been in place for less than half a year.

  • I live in Syd and we brought a house from a firey. Alarms are connected and hardwired. Good enough for the previous owners as a minimum then good enough for me

  • +1

Thanks. Our existing alarms are hardwired but I think the humidity sets them off, or the backup battery… but always at about 2am (lol).

  • I installed 'Brooks' - 10 year lithium, interconnected. They work when I test them, never had a false alarm.

They are an Australian owned company, and the alarms I installed were made in Ireland.

  • I paid $1190 to install 7 alarms in my single storey house in Oct 2021. 10 year Li-ion batteries.

  • Nest protect are $168 @ Officeworks. I have 3 of them and can't fault.

  • Look up on propertychat its been discussed quite well and lots of info of affordable good offers. I think you can get the entire house done for $500 or so. Cheers.

  • Thanks all, gives me a good place to start
