  • More or less the same price isn't it?

    • +1

from $389 return to Honolulu? No that's not the same price.

Some of the domestic ones aren't huge discounts, but still decent. The international ones are really up there.

  • The average Melb-Syd return flight is less than $99, at least for me.

e: my most recent booking was $97 for return fares, seat selection and snacks.

    • I guess that was on Rex?

      • Nope, Jetstar

        • +1

          And you got snacks? Gee

  • +1

Almost all the flight prices one way have double the price .
Like Melbourne -> Hobart is usually around $45 but here its $99. Not a deal for me.

I have family overseas that I haven’t seen in over 2 years since the pandemic began. The return ticket to Denpasar is only $309 with this sale, which is insane. Might not be a deal for you but this is definitely a deal for me.

I’ll meet you there for some tacos! Booked for start of June. Replacing our May 2020 trip!

        • Haha! I'm originally from Lombok, Bali's sister island. Way more chill although I fear that Bali's tourism is only making the island way more busy. Enjoy!

          • @tacos4brekkie: Cheers, might check out Lombok while I’m over there. Any recommendations?

            • @CORWIN: Being a Club Jetstar member, I checked all dates and airports that Jetstar uses to fly to Bali.

There were no free return flifgts.

The ACCC has previously tackled Jetstar over drip pricing - where extra charges are added on the payment page. Now is the time for the ACCC to tackle Jetstar over advertising fares that do not exist.

@klrrider1: I got my tickets about 2.30pm today. Previously when this deal came up, I missed the early release for club jetstar, but then picked up some the next day when open to everyone. Maybe try midnight if keen.

                • @CORWIN: Thanks for your suggestion.

I waited to midnight and logged into Club Jetstar.

About 5 minutes after midnight AEDT, a plethora of free return flights appeared.

                  Thanks again.

              • @klrrider1: I'm not sure what you are doing but I am seeing plenty of free return flights. Seems to be available almost every day during the promo period and I'm searching for 6 passengers.

You need to click beyond the month long calendar view.

                • @capslock: capslock,

After reading your comment, I went back to the Jetstar website. I tried SYD, MEL, ADL. PER, BNE and DRW for every return flight from 1 February 2022 to 30 June 2022 from Bali. There were no free return flights.

If you can suggest one date to one Australian airport from Bali, I will check again and take it up with Jetstar why it is not shown on my screen.

BTW I am a member of Club Jetstar.

                  • @klrrider1: Both the outbound and return flight have to be within the allowed date range of the promotion

The international fares sound attractive, but buyers need to be cognisant of all the other costs (additional to the usual pre-COVID) that may be incurred when travelling outside of Australia.

    • +1

      You are right.

My wife is flying to Bali next month and the costs are piling up.

$A1,000 for a one way flight to Jakarta from Sydney.
$A200 or a one way flight to Bali from Jakarta
$A500 for a one way flight from Bali to Sydney.
$A700 for 3 nights quarantine in Jakarta
$A100 for a PCR test before she leaves Australia.
$A50 for a PCR test before she goes to a quarantine hotel in Jakarta.
$A50 for a PCR test before she is allowed to leave her quarantine hotel in Jakarta.
$A50 for a PCR test before she is allowed to board a plane to Sydney from Bali.
$A100 for a PCR test when she arrives in Australia.

      • +1

yes i was just reviewing that now too, i saw hawaii $389 return (starter package) but then was thinking about amount of PCR tests required. I was thinking $150 for PCR leaving aus so thats $300 for 2 people and then also $300 to do this on the way back.

I am assuming also flights to usa, you just show the negative PCR then you should be able to roam free after arrival but i'm also worried if in the case we take a PCR test before coming back to aus and then we test positive, then we would have to stay in hawaii, find last minute accommodation, quarantine for who knows how long to try and get a negative case (assuming they will tell you to self isolate?) and then book a flight out to aus

shame - i thought it would have been awesome to fly to hawaii too but just with all this uncertainties i'll just have to put a hold on it for now

  • So what are the (known) regulations for travellers from WA to international (eg Bali) in May/June: Get out, get back in, quarantine in self-paid hotel or at home .. ?

  • Thanks OP, I would love to book a flight to Perth from the Gold Coast.

Problem is, the WA premiere keeps moving the goal posts and then Jetstar use your money then give you a voucher to when you may or may not be be able to use it again because of the WA tyrant.

Flying anywhere these days is a roll of the dice, very frustrating, but very disappointing when things don't pan out to get what you pay for.

    • Had booked to fly last month to Perth from the Gold Coast - same price as in this Deal.

At time of booking there were no travel restrictions.
      Then… "subsidised" Quarantine: $2520!

Jetstar cancelled flight a week before departure. Guess no one was willing to fly.
      Disappointing, but also lucky!

      Received refund no problems.
Had partly paid with a promotional $25 voucher about to expire - now good for another year.

    • -1

Move to NSW, ACT or VIC then you will be free to come and go as you please.

      • Yea, sure! WA says otherwise!

The restriction is at least as bad if from those hotspot areas, entering WA!

        WA COVID-19 coronavirus: Controlled border
        Queensland: very low risk
        ACT: medium risk
        New South Wales: high risk
        Victoria: extreme risk

  • Cant use my credit voucher for payment?

    • You can.

      • Remember, if the price paid is less than your credit voucher, you will lose the difference.

It is better to add food, lugggage etc to get the price over the value of your credit voucher.

  • Neat, you can set the return date to be almost a year from departure

    • But changing flight date later could be expensive!

Even with the advantage of Fly Flexible, you have to pay the fare difference. Only the change fee is waived.

As the return fare is free in this Deal, it could cost a full fare at that time!

In the past, I needed to change return free date - was cheaper & easier to book new flight back from Japan.

      • Might be cheaper at the time to just skip the return flight and shop around.

        • +1

That's what I did in Japan (just added that above).

Makes this not so attractive Deal, if uncertain of return date.
Sometimes conditions change or a crisis arises, meaning plans change.

Maybe better to buy discounted one-way & shop around for flight back when you are sure of date.

Have successfully done that when return date was unknown (hiking in Tasmania & NZ). Was able to find a cheap fare home when I wanted, without the need to fly on date booked months ahead

      • I booked a free return fare in this sale to Bali.

I paid extra for the Flex Bundle on the flight from Sydney to Bali.

If the PCR tests, quarantine, visa costs and PCR tests are too onerous, I will pull the pin on the trip and collect a voucher for the full cost of the outwards leg and lose the free return flight. On the free return flight, I have only paid for luggage and a meal.

  • if flying to Tassie or WA…don't forget to add your PCR test…pretty much more than doubles the cost of the flight.

  • -2

    Worst airline ever

    • pay more and fly qantas then lol

  • Just wanna know if travelling from Melb to Brisbane do we need to quarantine? Return flights Thanks in advance .

    • +1

At the moment yes, will be no quarantine come December though, for fully vaxxed travellers

  • You couldn't pay me enough to fly that Perth to Brisbane flight, never doing a red eye again.

Saying that, am I wrong or are some of the Brisbane to Perth return for free showing as low as $159? In February, some as $179 also. Not too bad for a return trip if you can survive the red eye!

  • I booked return from Gold Coast to Tokyo for the whole family (4 of us) In June - July during school holidays next year - cracking price $1268.33 (included two 20kg bags)

Anticipating by June / July 2022, travel should be mostly sorted out at highly vaxxed countries - and acceptable tests will include the at home kits (at $7.5 each).
Japan already looking at using them in their strategy to re-open, I think Australia will follow suit when most of the nation at 90%.

At worst, took the punt on a great price - and hopefully the tourists and hotel prices will be significantly lower to make it a great experience.

    • Good job on that price, hope it goes well. Make sure to check out more than just Tokyo tho

      • Yes the idea is Bullet train to Osaka, then Nara, then Kyoto, then who knows!

Cheers, hoping the best for the world to start getting back on track, we can't be in darkness forever and there's too much to explore.

    • i would factor in worst case all this PCR tests required before and arriving into australia too

      • Have done, $520 leaving aus, ($150 with $20 off each Qantas discount),

        SmartAmp Station PCR test clinic
        Health and beauty
        Complementary medicine
        Kyobashi
Hulic Kyobashi Bldg 7F, 2-7-12 Yaesu, Chuo. Mon-Fri 9am-6pm, closed Sat, Sun & hols.

Reservations can be made online in advance (in Japanese only). PCR test ¥1,980 and certificate ¥5,500. For more information, visit here

        ¥7,500 = $360 aud.

Like I said though, the influence of other countries coupled with vaccination, the rapid antigen tests with QR code verification might be sufficient.

        • +1

Fingers cross, I hope they put rapid testing instead of PCR. I want travel to go back to normal so I can visit Hawaii!

Have a good time in Japan :)

          • +1

@prankster: Thanks, I'm sure it will progress for everyone. They can't shut down travel forever. When the world is close to 90% vax rates, it's time to get on with it and live with it.

Interesting that most aus states do not care about tests if you're vaccinated when they hit 90% … No doubt it will still be a requirement for airlines and arrival at our border.

        • Sorry I'm not understanding your exchange rate.

          "¥7,500 = $360 aud."

This is supposed to be JPY (for Japan) right? JPY 7500 is actually AUD$93?

    • hope everything opens up for you at that time. my Japanese friends said it isn't a good time to visit right now.
then i was going to go to hawaii instead, but that is also bad. :(
going to stay in the country for now, my 1st flight will be to see the australian open in january

      • why is hawaii bad? the numbers are low i say just in the mid 100 which is probably what we have still here in NSW

        • maybe that's just the numbers of the locals, but the majority in hawaii are also from overseas.
hospitals are all full, and people are getting turned away and getting sent to other hospitals on the other side of the island. so if its an emergency you might not make it.
everything isn't opened up yet. there are like 2-3 months waits to get into restaurants. everything is still social distanced and long lines everywhere.
hawaii is open to go to, but i would wait a little bit longer before going.
          ymmv

          • @Hugh G Rection: Damm sad to hear and yeah hope everyone things start to go back to normal there.

Considering being a small island they should have done what Australia did, full lockdown even with mainland UsA that would have reduced their cases a lot until they get the vaccine rollout but oh wells each US state is different

            • @prankster: in theory it would be great, but the Americans are different. too much entitlement. that is why its great to visit, but not live.

              • @Hugh G Rection: true true, if any place i would pick hawaii to live at least they have some relation to island pacific culture and hopefully less red necks than the mainland lol

  • i bought last week, $35 each way, $70 total. i guess if you missed last weeks deal, this is a good pickup

I always fly qantas, but for this price i will give jetstar a try.

  • Being a dumbguy, where can I go for interstate travel from NSW

  • I have logged in and tried to book a flight to Perth twice now.

Each time I try to book after luggage I then get to choose seats page but before getting there, all I see is a Loading Icon which continually goes round and round and never actually loads up the seats if I wish to choose them.

Not sure if they will allow to book a free flight tomorrow but it is frustrating as heck trying to do this.

Anyone else experience this? or work arounds?

    • Just a heads up.

I discovered the sale was still on so tried to book again via my laptop.

Still got stuck at the seats section with the Loading Gif running for 20 minutes and so then broke out the App on my S10 and booked the flight that way.

It seemed to bring out a CAPCHA box to choose some pics with bridges in it and after that it would allow me to choose seats and finish the booking.

Why the Laptop never got any Capcha showed may have had something to do with a popup blocker, or likely that.

Now its done and I can chill out (hopefully) again :)

  • I booked seats on the Return Free Jetstar Sale using my laptop. My laptop also has a pop up blocker.

I also got the Capcha box, but no pictures appeared. I managed to continue the process to complete the booking.
