Any Discount on iPad 9th Gen?

Hi there,

Do you know any great deal on iPad 9th 256GB?

Should I purchase one now or wait for the Black Friday? Not sure if iPads are discounted on black Friday.

Thanks.

Hard to say if there will be a deal on Black Friday but we are so close to it now you might as well wait.

If last year was anything to go by, the short answer is that there will be no substantial deals for Black Friday. I was keeping an eye on deals for iPad 8th Gen around November and December last year, and basically noticed nothing worth noting, as there were massive stock shortages in the lead-up to Christmas (and even after Christmas!).

I just had a quick look at the Apple website and JB Hi-Fi website, and they seem to have stock shortages again, so my guess (and it is a guess) is that Apple or its authorised resellers will have very little incentive to discount iPad 9th Gen this year.

How quickly do you need an iPad 9th Gen? Is it something you need now? Is it a Christmas present? Is it something you want, but are not particularly fussed as to when you get it?

In terms of deals that are available right now:

    • Officeworks (which is a good litmus test for probable cheapest brick and mortar retailer) is currently selling it for $727, which is $2 less than Apple’s RRP. (How generous…)
    • The Apple Education Store is currently selling it for $679.1

If you get $679 in Apple gift cards from Coles, you will earn 13,580 Flybuys points, which is equivalent to $67.90 in Flybuys Dollars or 6790 Velocity Frequent Flyer points. The $500 gift card in this deal is actually a variable load gift card where you can load any amount between $20 and $500 inclusive, so it is possible to get exactly $679 in Apple gift cards from Coles.

If bonus Flybuys points are not your jam, you could also consult the discounted gift card page to see whether you can access discounted Apple gift cards.

Alternatively, you can go to a JB Hi-Fi store or call JB Hi-Fi’s sales (13 52 44) and see whether they can price match the Apple Education Store. You are usually able to price match in-store if you can show evidence of your eligibility to access the Apple Education Store (uni student/staff ID card). The problem is that JB Hi-Fi currently does not have stock of these iPads, so you may not be able to do this. If you are able to do this, you can then use discounted JB Hi-Fi gift cards (or TCN gift cards or Ultimate gift cards from previous deals at Coles / Woolworths) to pay for the iPad. There are no active deals at Coles or Woolworths for TCN or Ultimate gift cards, so you’d be limited to everyday discounts on JB Hi-Fi gift cards.

    1. Apple very rarely audits orders to check whether you are eligible to purchase items from the Apple Education Store, but there have been a couple of cases reported where Apple has asked people for proof of eligibility. If you are not a student, you could always give it a shot, but YMMV.
