Hi Guys, I'm looking to buy an Asus UX31E-RY009V. Is the Good Guys the cheapest place to buy locally - currently $1199? I'm heading overseas in the next month so will claim back the GST as part of the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS). If anyone has had any luck recently getting this cheaper please let me know. I noticed a few receipts posted on Whirlpool for slightly cheaper but many have said their price matches have been refused.

Hi all, lurked for a while and thought I'd give back. I picked up a UX31E-RY009V at the good guys for $1110 nominal price = $890 after the Australia Post 20% off GG gift cards discount.
For the reference of anyone else attempting this, my local GG bought their stock at $1095 apiece. I showed a sales rep (who wasn't too computer literate) a few headline numbers from various websites (ebay, bhphotovideo, graysonline) to see how low I could get, and breached their cost price. (They didn't notice that Gray's price was for a refurb). For stores that have higher volumes, they might have newer stock bought at a lower price (someone is selling these on ebay for $1.05K including GST, from memory). Anyway, hope the price reference point is useful.
(Also paid for the gift cards on a zero-fee amex that now owes me $200 of David Jones vouchers as part of the introductory offer. Unfortunately, is a special deal, not publicly available, so can't be replicated. Mighty fun though!)
You should really take advantage of their 20% promo now while you still can. I've had an experience of buying appliances from that store (quite often, really) since their prices are just insane. On the usual, i could get more than 500 off bigger ticket items, that's not even the start of it. I don't know about their deals on laptops but I can bet you you can get the best prices at their stores. Just keep bargaining with their staff and deal with your coupons, plus, its hella lot easy to look for the nearest stores at their site thegoodguys.com.au
The Good Guys seems to be the better deal, the cheapest I could find was $1295 at Computer Alliance (QLD)…
