$99 Per Month Telstra Mobile Plan with 200GB Data for 24 Months, $1200 Bonus Gift Card @ JB Hi-Fi in-Store & Call Centre

290

Well I am currently looking to port my Vodafone number to Telstra basically to get JB hi-fi gift card to use it towards to buy iPhone 13.
Online offer is still showing $1000 gift card but when I called two different jb hi-fi stores today they both told me JB hi-fi has upgraded the offer and the gift card is actually $1200 on $99 plan.
So I thought to post it for everyone.

Works out to be $49 a month Over 2 years. According to my maff

      • +18

        $99 * 24 mths = $2376
        $2376 - $1200 = $1176
        $1176 / 24 mths = $49/mth

just missing some brain cells but you’re welcome

      • $2376 - $1200 (JB Hi Fi gift card) = $1176

        $1176 / 12 = ~$49/month

Even less if you are eligible to claim the $99 monthly cost as a tax deduction…

      • +1

        ($2376-$1200)/24 = $49 That's what he is talking about.

        • +1

So you can get the Iphone13 for 149 (without discounted gift cards, etc) and then you just have to pay 99 for 24 months? Can you get that to 89 with $10 port in credit?

  • +32

Hey jb head office if you’re looking at these posts can we get $59 / month for 12 month and $500 gc again?

    Tia
    Your pal,
    Jimmo

    • +2

that seems like a better deal. 2yr contract too long imo

      • 12 month contract is too long, but the $500 GC makes the difference just okay AND with the $10 off credit to bring the $69 plan to $59 — roughly around $17 per month for 80GB. That's the deal, I'm still on it, but it will expire soon….

  • Sorry but can you link us the actual deal?
or send an Imgur link of the promotion?
or do we just have to call up and ask about it?

  • +3

    Haha, I'll never sign a 24month contract. It's a bait! 🐟 🐠 🎣

    • +1

I would actually prefer a 24 month contract if the deal was good, it saves having to port out, wait a month, then wait for another deal to be back on, then port back in.

But even if you value the GC at full face value this is a worse deal than a 12 month $69 plan which often gives a $400 GC.

  • Have to call them or go in store

  • 1200=12 months * 100
    so 2 years is 50/month.
    That means 99-50=49. Not bad.

so effectively $600 gc on $99 pm 200gb nit great considering $500 gc $69 pm 140 gb few weeks ago

  • -3

font forget jb gift cards are often 20% off and sometimes 15-20 so a $1200 hc is eorth less

    • where can i get em at 15-20% off?

    • +1

Yeah where can I get 15-20% off JB HI-FI gift cards?

  • +1

don't bite, then they will release better deals!

  • I wonder whether anyone will have luck in adding monthly credit on top.

  • +3

The $99pm XL telstra plan with 150gb is regularly available for $65pm. So this gift card is effectively only worth $384. Meh

  • +1

    Hey all

Just thinking where would the best place to sell the gift card - even at a %5 loss on that would bring the cost per month down by a huge chunk.
JB hi-fi gift card is all well and good but I'm not in need of anything from there at the moment.

  • Hope this deal back on black Friday https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/660118

$99 Telstra Mobile Plan with 150GB Data on a 12-Month Contract, $30 Monthly Credit & Bonus $500 Gift Card

    • only downside of that deal is you still pay the ETC based on $99 plan not $69. $69/$59 + 500gc is still the best ideal IMO.

      • If you leave early. If you exit the day after your plan expires you will only pay 1/31 * $99 of your rate pro-rata. So setup a calendar reminder to port out the day after and this isn't an issue.

        • I meant before the plan expires (hence what ETC mean). it's how many months left * 0.5 * $99 instead of how many months left * 0.5 * $69. i.e. if you cancel 3 months before plan ends, it's $148.5 ETC vs $103.5. Some might find that difference is not worth mentioning but some may care.
Also I was told you will forfeit the voucher you gain if you quit earlier. Not sure how they charge you back the vouchers you have spent though.

    • Also got on this deal. The last day of the deal was $69 with 200gb and a $500 gift card. Excellent deal if you need the data.

  • Can you do this if you don’t live near a jb hifi store? How do they get the sim to you?

  • They still trying to get people locked up for two years ….So lame

  • What's the $600 voucher for $99 about? Seen in the t&c

  • Isn’t this Vodafone offer better if you don’t need that much of data - https://www.apple.com/au/iphone/carrier-offers/

    $69 x 24 = $1,656
    $1,656 - $1,000 = $656
    $656 / 24 = $27.33/mth

If you can claim $69/mth for tax then ….

  • What's the best way to get this if you are a current Telstra customer?

    On Whirlpool someone said

Don't you just have to port out for a short period then you can sign up again?

Supposedly, you have to port out for at least 30 days to be eligible to get the GC. But others said that you can get a new number, port it to the new plan and then cancel the new number and replace it with the old number.

Has anyone done the above? Was it easy?

    • +1

I was in this scenario around this time last year when they ran the deal - signed up for the new plan porting in a spare amaysim prepaid SIM card I had lying around, used live chat to ask Telstra to swap the service numbers on the two plans I now had, which they did no questions asked (took maybe 10 minutes before the change was live), then in a separate chat, cancelled the old plan (which was out of contract already).

But I vaguely remember reading somewhere (either on Ozbargain or Whirlpool) that this is apparently no longer possible? I'd also be keen to hear a more recent experience.

Can confirm this is still on. I signed up yesterday and received the $1200 gift card on the spot
