Advice for Mini Pc Build - 5700g Vs 12600k

Hello, I currently use a Lenovo m710q with 7400t.
Just use for youtube, office works and light gaming such as Wotb.
The performance is okay overall, but it gets slow under some Chrome tabs.

Therefore I am thinking to build a mini pc as a replacement
as the Jupiter x300 is not available in Oz
I will choose x300 with 5700g. Is it a good case and board?

Or should I go for the Intel 12th gen - 12600k?
also if I go with the 12600k any recommendation for a mini Itx board and case?

Also, I will stick to Windows 10 until mid-2022 for better software compatibility.

Many Thanks

If your only concern is the PC slowing down, you may want to consider doubling the RAM and getting an SSD if don't have one already. Those 2 upgrades would give you a considerable speed increase since you only have very light use.

    • it does use SSD as storage and upgraded to 16Gb ram instead of factory 8Gb. So I am thinking is the CPU.(thanks for the comments anyway)

      • try turning off virtual memory / paging file\

if that speed things up, then consider 32gb ram and keep the settings

the ssd that came with it , usually dramless slow ssd

      • Open Resource Monitor and check what use the most.

12600k needs some good cooling, not only will you need a new case and motherboard, you will also need a different power supply and cooler for that kind of build.

I would recommend the Cooler Master NR200P MAX Mini which includes the power supply and aio cooling solution.

For the motherboard just choose the brand you are familiar with like asus or gigabyte and buy the itx motherboard that is within your budget.

12600k is a joke without a dedicated GPU, also DDR4 needed for the 12600k and the Z690 motherboards are insanely expensive. the 12600k/16gb DDR5/ITX MB is around $361 more expensive vs the AMD 5700g /16GB DDR4/ITX MB counterpart.

  • Check out toms hardware guide as it has reviews of the CPU's…. The two biggest issue you will have is heat and chip set (aka price) for the Intel…

  • if you care about budget, get z590i with 10600k instead. z590i comes down to 199 ish and 10600k with 500gb SSD was on sale for 250. With a good case + PSU + a low profile Noctua (250 ish on sale altogether), your cost comes down to roughly 700 for a brand new overclockable SFF PC if you use your old ram.

  • Both are ridiculous overkill for your needs, the 7400t was a low power chip at its prime. Granted, pricing on the 5700g isn’t too shabby.

Wouldn’t put the 12600 in a mini case, it’ll be throttling due to heat and defeat the purpose.

IMO, buy a gaming laptop. Port selection on the x300 sucks and it’ll do better for light gaming while also fixing your browser issues. Personally I’d just get a slightly bigger desktop, unless you’re really strapped for space.
