Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about buying one of the new M1 Pro MacBook Pros for work and trying to hatch a plan to fund it/save as much as possible. Happy to consider any means such as tax/salary arrangements, credit cards, points, discounts, etc. Full RRP for the model I'm after is $4,049.00. Here's what I've come up with so far:
Education discount: I'll be able to save $300 because I can purchase with the EDU discount.
Salary sacrifice: As it'll be a work computer, I should be able to salary package the device. Unless I've misunderstood how this works, I should be able to save on the GST, plus the income tax rate (32.5%). This should bring the effective costs down by $1,417.49
Credit card cash back: Get a new card for the purchase and receive a cash back offer. I have my eyes on the $600 cashback on the Citi Premier card.
Ask my work for a laptop allowance. My work currently provides me with a laptop. I'm hoping they may be willing to give me an allowance instead if I return the device and BYOD. I don't know for sure, but I think it would work out to about $60 a month over 4 years (device lifespan) that my work would spend to provide me with a laptop. If they can give me this as an allowance instead, it'd work out to $720 per year.
Add all these means up and after having the device for 1 year, it should have saved me about $3,037.49. Keep it for three years and I'd probably have broken even on the purchase price.
Can anyone think of any other ways to save/benefit off this kind of purchase? Any alternative credit cards worth considering, or cash back offers on Apple products? Discounted gift cards?
