  The 2m cable won't get 40gbps (spec is 20). The 1m is technically also out of spec, so won't be quite 40gbits; would likely only matter for an eGPU where dropping a bit below spec you'll really feel it.

    You're right when it comes to passive cables. But you can have active cables that maintain that speed at 1m (possibly 2m too)

    For an eGPU setup, you definitely wanna keep the cable as short as possible due to latency

      Oh true. I should have said that! Good pick up. Active would get it across the line.

      The 1m/2m aren't active here as far as I can tell.

    You're not wrong, but I tested my 2m TB3 cable with a dock and dual 1440p monitors and was not able to detect any lag or dropped frames.
