Amazon is matching Centrecom for the KC2500, and Umart for the P5.

A step above the P1, P2, A2000s, and you know what you are getting vs the SN550s.

Bought a KC2500 since P5 seems to run a bit hot. But in the same ball park performance wise.

Both are PCI3.0

  • Is this the right type of SSD to buy to fit in a laptop too or is this specifically for desktops?

    • Will depend on the model of your laptop and whether it supports 2280 M.2 NVMe

      • It does support PCIe M.2 2280 but was just confused as the Amazon entry for Kingston mentioned "Ideal for desktops, workstations and high-performance computing (HPC) systems" but not laptops. I'll take it no difference then.

        • Probably something to do with heat output? Not too sure

          • @celery juice: Didn't mean it said not suitable for laptops, but instead it just didn't mention laptops.

    • I installed the 2tb version in my razer laptop and there's been no issues.

  • Are these KC2500 replacing the Kingston A2000?

    • +1

No, this is a separate line of NVMe for Kingston. These replaced the KC2000 and in turn are being replaced by the KC3000. They're a level above the A2000 in performance.

  • Which one is best ?

    • They are pretty similar, just depends if you like Kingston or Crucial/Micron. A couple reviews says P5 runs a bit hot, but thats under sustained loads which most user wouldn't even get close, then obviously there is the 10 dollar difference.

The lowest tiers of NVME 1TB drives are all around the 120-140 range and all are QLC drives, with its associated performance drops as the cache runs out.

These are the next step up, and with the minimal price difference between these and the QLC drives, might as well spend a little more. Better sustained performance and much higher TBW as well.

  • KC2500 is a very good buy at $139. I would purchase this if I needed a new drive, but I just purchased a Samsung 970 Evo plus for around the same $ a few days ago.

  • Amazon back at $155.

    • Centercom still in stock, but they have surcharge for Paypal/card payments.

      • Use zip pay to avoid surcharge

    • The kc2500 is back to $139 again at amazon (their pricing is just weird), but only 1 in stock.

However, an earlier posting to ozb listed the kc2500 at $129 (+ free shipping) at bpctech: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/662646
