Power Adaptor for Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock (type 40AC)

Hi all

Recently bought a new X1 yoga gen 6.

I've been given a Thunderbolt 3 dock (type 40AC) and Lenovo support couldn't tell me whether my existing Lenovo 90W and 65W slim-tip power bricks will work with my new laptop.

The dock originally came with a 135W adaptor that Lenovo doesn't sell any more, apparently.

Will ANY Lenovo adaptor with slim tip work, or am I looking for something specific?

Both should work. Since you have them, just try them. Higher wattage one will charger quicker than the other. You should not need 135W for laptop only unless you are daisy chaining multiple devices (i.e. monitors and external drives all powered through).

You can also google "price ThinkPad 135W AC Adapter Charger (Slim Tip)" to find other companies that sell the required brick.

Thanks for the replies was just wondering if the variable voltage/current combinations (as in PD chargers) was necessary, in addition to sufficient wattage to power the machine and peripherals.

All my existing chargers are fixed output.

I honestly think its just the shape of the brick that is different.

I just tested my 135w "slim" brick (that came with an x1 extreme) with my wifes dock and it worked fine.

Model no on the brick psu was: 135NCC3A

Model on the x1 extremes psu was: 135SCC3A

Honestly I don't think the dock will care less what is plugged in but don't quote me on that :P
