I bought one of these a month ago and it's great. A bit power hungry, but works fine for general office duties with a 100W PD USBC charger.
Sure, its a fingerprint magnet, but its small, light and gorgeous.

It's better than my Asus G14 because it has a webcam so is a better work laptop in that regard.
No, you cannot upgrade RAM (it's soldered on), but you could replace the SSD if you felt the need.

You can salary sacrifice one laptop each FBT year :)

  • Hello what do you mean by FBT Year? Also, I am looking for a new laptop my old Asus ROG G551JW is getting old. Been looking at G14, G15 and M16 zephyrus models. But this deal is kind of great. Just hope yours doesn't get battery bloat.

I'm guessing it means once per tax cycle, but it goes from April to April.

The above link is what I use, since I'm a teacher, and we use smart salary. Your employer may use something different. To use the calculator, just pretend you're a nsw department of edu teacher and see the estimates.

    • FBT= Fringe Benefits Tax. You can salary sacrifice one laptop each FBT year (1Apr to 31Mar) - generally only for full time employees that can attest to the ATO that you're using it for work related purposes.
You end up swapping the laptop for cash (you give up the ex-gst amount from your package).
I'm not an accountant, I just know many employers offer this benefit.

No thanks. The Lenovo Legion 5 Pro deal with 3070 is far better and cheaper. You're just paying for brand here and not performance.

    • +1

Is there a current deal for the Legion 5 Pro?

    • +3

People interested in this are mainly in it for the form factor. It is the same size as the new 14" MBP.

It's a lot more compact than a 16" laptop, I wouldn't be surprised if something like this is about 50% of the volume

    • Any deals for LL5 Pro lately ?

    • The form factor is the main draw for the blade. It's a hefty stupid premium but it gets some people wet.

    • +1

You want to go ahead and link to a currently available L5 Pro with the above specs for less than $3k?

      …I'll wait.

    • Theres a premium for laptops without a numpad

    • Have you actually owned a Razer Blade 14 to make this statement or you just window shop?

    alternatively $2299 gets you a Blade 15 Advanced. 300Hz panel, 8 core Intel, 2070 Super Max-Q

yeah once again you can have Legion Pro 16 with QHD and 130w 3060 that will probably be faster and a bit cheaper (education portal)

but this is a Razer. I don't get these 14 inch gaming laptops. I can't see a thing on anything smaller than 15.6"

    • Time for glasses!

      • nah. why buy glasses if you can buy a bigger laptop! I literally bought Razer Blade 17 Pro today. that's my kind of game

        • Almost like the 14 is made for portability or something hey. Just hook it up to a 34” widescreen when you are home if you have bad eyes.

          • @onlinepred: it's not about bad eyes man, it's hard to immerse into anything on a such small screen

nah 17 is my choice. why bother with an external monitor if I can have it all on the laptop itself. less moving parts to keep it simple

            • @shabaka: Well the 14 would be for portable use, then plug it in to an actual decent sized monitor at home. theres no way I’d use a 17” at home, I only use the laptop displays when I’m not in front of a desk and it’s a bunch of monitors there, like on a train, a hot desk, in the backyard etc. I even hook it up to my 65” oled. Couldn’t imagine only using max 17” display for everything. That’s crazy. Anyway glad it works for you carrying around a huge and heavy laptop!

              • -2

@onlinepred: for work I do have a 14" X1 Lenovo that weighs nothing, and that's the device I carry around. and even then I will probably use its 14" screen only once or twice a year, mostly the device is plugged into a dual 27" monitor setup

for play though, 17" Razer is the thing. laptop screen is closer that you would typically have a monitor, so 17.3" is the perfect size when I do need to play or be productive on the go. editing photos and videos for example.

good luck doing that on a tiny 14" or less. can't see sh!t

smaller laptops are for losers who can't afford the best

                • +1

                  @shabaka:

smaller laptops are for losers who can't afford the best

Wow, this is news too me. Apparently owning a laptop that is 14" or smaller makes you poor and a loser.

The strangest part is that this 14" laptop is more expensive than the laptop you linked. I just don't get it

                  • -2

@Butt Scratcher: the one I have is more expensive than the 14" in this deal

alternatively just go to Scorptec, look at the Razer laptops and sort them by price, descending. 14" is not in the top 3, and there's a reason for that

but seriously, I am just pulling your leg. each to their own, and different sizes are for different use cases. I just never had a use case for anything smaller than 15.6". trust me, I tried. I wish I could do everything I need to do on the go and NOT haul around the 2.7kg beast. but 14" just won't do, so I haul it

                    • @shabaka: Please don't misunderstand me, I wasn't accusing you of being poorer than us plebs with <=14" laptops

                • @shabaka: Confirmed, you are a 12 year old lol. Grow up champ. Thinks gaming on a 17” is the dream.

5% price beat at officeworks, don't forget guys! (quick, before they realise and drop price to $2998)

  • I had to recently return one of the 15.6 3080 Razer Blade deals, had a high pitch fan whine that was ear piercing and unbearable while doing any gaming. Anyone know how the Ryzen 14 inch models sound?

    • Did the replacements have the whine too?

      • No replacements availiable (Microsoft eBay deal from a month ago), so I'll just be getting a refund unfortunately, the fan noise is apparently a know issue for the 2021 advanced chassis, it has a few potential fixes on Reddit but I didn't want to modify such an expensive laptop on week 1 haha.

    • +1

nah no issues with mine, fans do get loud, but thats to be expected with the hardware packed inside.
