Sensory Lab Coffee Stellar Blend 2kg (2x 1kg) $55.00 Delivered @ Sensory Lab

60

Not as cheap as their past deals (which were $25 for 1kg/$48.50 for 2kg), but still decent. Much better than their santo organic blend.

2kg may be a lot to buy at once for many people, but you can prolong their freshness always keeping them an airtight container and storing any excess beans in the freezer in airtight, ideally vacuum-sealed bags (make sure that no moisture gets in) and only taking out beans when you need them.

Stellar is our darkest blend with a rich and syrupy body. Featuring bold flavours of dark chocolate, butterscotch and praline, Stellar is perfect for milk-based coffee or for those who like their espresso with a kick!

  • I want to give them another go after the Santo debacle, but this is too many beans!

Yeah, fair enough. Personally I find freezing excess beans in airtight bags to be quite effective at retaining freshness when purchasing two kilos in one go.

If you've tried this blend before and like it I think this is a good deal, but this is 2 months of beans for me and I haven't tried this blend before so it's a bit of a gamble. Would be all over it if it were only 1kg.

I do the freezing beans thing as well because of all the coffee deals on here and it's fantastic!

        • Yeah, I agree, it’s a gamble if you don’t know what it tastes like. For reference though, I’ve found it to be very similar to both Axil’s Vader/Heavyweight Blend and Dukes’ Market Blend, in case you’ve tried either of those:

          Sensory Lab Stellar Espresso Blend:

          Country: 60% Brazil | 40% Colombia
Region: Sao Paulo | Huila Department
Cultivar: Red Bourbon | Caturra, Colombia, Castillo
          Processing: Natural | Washed
          Chocolate | Butterscotch | Praline
Santo is our darkest blend with a rich and syrupy body. Featuring bold flavours of dark chocolate, butterscotch and praline, Santo is perfect for milk-based coffee or for those who like their espresso with a kick!

Axil Heavyweight (formerly called Vader) Blend:

          Brazil & Colombia
          50% washed & 50% natural
Heavyweight is a more developed roast than our seasonal blend, for those looking for a bigger body and less acidity in their blend.
Prepared as milk expect – Almond, Dark Chocolate and Toffee
Brewed for black expect – Blood Orange, Treacle and Dark Chocolate.

          Dukes Market Blend:

The Market Espresso Blend is made up of the following exceptional Organic coffees:
→ Peru Chope Womens’ Cooperative (Washed process)
          → Colombia Planadas (Washed process)
→ Brazil Fazenda Santa Margarida (Natural process)
          Processing: Washed & Natural Processes
The Market Blend is a bold coffee that tastes wonderful under milk, or rich and syrupy served black. A more traditional style blend, Market Espresso is low in acidity and high in body.
The Market Blend is extremely forgiving and flexible, and has been focused as the ultimate milk coffee, delivering high strength and bold flavour under milk. We recommend drinking the Market Blend under milk, or as a rich and bold espresso or stovetop brew.

  • What was the Santo debacle for those not familiar?

  • $6 for 250g at my local coles

    • Typically no roast date on Sensory Lab branded stuff sold at Coles, so expect stale beans if you buy that. Last time I bought beans from Sensory Lab, ordered on Monday, sent Wednesday, and delivered Friday roasted less than a week beforehand. This was within Melbourne though, and lots of people interstate had theirs delivered very late.

I ordered this on the 7th and received today. Super quick delivery in 2 days so some thing may have changed with the delivery service used. I am in Melbourne. Roast date on the bag is 7/11 so beans are super fresh and will be stored for at least a week!
