Need Help Choosing New Tyres for My Pathfinder (235/65/R18 106+)

Hi,
My Pathfinder 2018 (MY17) 4WD ST-L 3.5 V6 needs new tyres. Currently using the Continentals (Cross Contact LS Sport) which came with the new car. Neither happy or unhappy. At 50K kms they got fully bald.

My usage is generally day trips around VIC on the weekends and occasionally light off-road (gravel / wet roads in national parks. No heavy mud etc.).
And planning to go to ski resorts in the winter. (Hoping no further lockdowns in VIC). Snow is not a deal breaker. But happy to know if they can save me from using chains on light snow.

I was able to shortlist three alternatives below and been advised to take the Pirelli by my local Bob Jane T Mart shop.

Just before pulling the trigger wanted to get a few opinions based on your experience. And since the prices are close to each other, being the cheapest is not a selection criteria for me.

Thanks

Have a look at tyroola, tyresales, and other places online before making payment. I was able to grab 4 x 195 60 R15 tyres for mere like $256, and take away cashback of like ~$80 from shopback new user signup, and their targated cashback offers (by my family member) plus use of discounted Visa/mastercard GC.

Pirelli SCORPION VERDE All Season if you want something with half-decent grip and longevity (I've lost 3mm treads in 25k km…as a comparison, I would've been up for replacement at 20k km if I'm using P Zero) but leaning towards PS4 when the Scorpion's are due for replacement. My other cars run PS4, PS4S and PSS so I'm a bit of a Michelin fanboi.

Consider also the Bridgestone H/L 400

The Michelin PS4 will be the best performance on sealed roads but is not intended for offroad.

Probably. But also the one with least km life.

The more 'horizontal' the lines on the tyres the more 'off roady" is. The more "veritcal" the less.

ie: the Michellins looks like theyre road only.
the other two have more little horizontal grooves which probably helps in the snow. But wont do anything for wet dirt roads.

Looks like all terrain tyre arent available in your tire size. If you wanted to go more off roady tires you'll have to move a tire size up or down a bit.
You can generally do one profile size up or down, and the opposite or not of width. Maybe that'll yield some all terrain tyre patterns.

Check the tyres in online EU tyre websites. They have to, by law, give a rating on fuel consumption, wet weather grip and sound. But not all tires sold here are sold there, and viceversa.

  • Many thanks for all the suggestions.
I was so tempted to get the Michelin ones, but been told they are almost the best for sealed roads. But not good for wet/mud/light snow etc. So, picked the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season ones.
They appear to be good so far. Just the grip is very noticeable when turning sharp corners. Hope I get used to it :)
