If you don't know the difference between AMD Ryzen U,H and HS series. U is 15W TDP, H is 45w TDP and HS is 35W TDP. There is also a HX series which are 45W+ in high end gaming laptops.

The HS Creator Edition is better binned to be more power efficient but with similar clock speeds to the H series CPU.

The 5800H version without a dGPU is now slightly cheaper than my previous post at $1449.81.

  • This vs the Ideapad pro 5?

Also is there a similar priced one with a dGPU?

    • +2

HS CE for performance and power efficiency. U series, in the IdeaPad Pro, is binned for power efficiency

90hz OLED on the Yoga vs 60hz IPS on the 14" IdeaPad Pro. OLED will provide better image quality.

The IdeaPad Pro adds up to $1364 with the MX450 option, and a 5800U.

It just depends on your budget and needs.

      • Ah okay. For such a small price difference the yoga would be better.

I just wished they gave us DGPU for 14"

  • Wasn't it $1700 just awhile ago?

    • You're thinking of the Yoga Carbon

      • +1

Yeah, you're right that was Carbon. Which is now $1,681.21 with the new code.

  • Is this good for a uni student for light gaming?

    • Not that good for gaming unless you are happy with low-med settings

    • +3

It's plenty for light gaming. Refer to notebookcheck for what performance may be like in games with an MX450. You will be limited to HD and low settings for modern AAA titles, but Esports games should be fine.

      https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-MX450-N18S-G5-G…

      • Thanks for detail. This is not my spec for games though…

    • With GeforceNow already available, a beefy laptop spec is no longer a necessity to do gaming

  • Just exploring the Website. Yoga 7 Gen 6 14" AMD Slate Grey with 3 Year Warranty was - $1890.74. (SINGLE11) gave me a $185.79 discount. (EDUCOMM) still works and gave me a $189.07 discount. Try both the codes to decide which works better for you.

  • this is non touch?

  • I guess no additional ram slot for upgrade?

  • good value especially for this screen.

  • Ships in 4 weeks, fwiw.

  • Interested to see if the OLED supports BFI.

  • If only this was touch screen.

    • +1

There is an option for this. You can talk to a rep and get them to price it to $1950 more or less. I got a rep to authorise a Slim 7 Carbon, 5600u with mx450 and touch for 1940. It's a very big premium for the lighter chassis, touch and mx450, but I didn't care.

  • +1

What are the chances the price drops even lower during Click Frenzy, Black Friday or Cyber Monday…

    • Very high but I got them to write me a quote yesterday and it's valid until Nov 22 so was going to wait a week or two and see

Keep it on the down low

      • I'm curious on how you got them to right the quote down etc.?

        • +1

From your cart there is an option to request a quote.

  • Ryzen, 16Go, OLED from Samsung, that's really tempting instead of my MB Air M1 16Go. Same price point…

  • This vs ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 6?
I've narrowed my search down to both models but just need to identify the pros and cons of each.

Yoga Slim 7 Pro is newer, seems to have better OLED and battery. The X1 is older but a flagship model so it's going to win in other areas. But I would need the touchscreen version of the Yoga Slim 7 Pro.

EDIT: Nevermind, this isn't a 2-in-1. Got confused.

    • The X1 Yoga Gen 6 is very good, except it doesnt have ambient light sensor. Coming from Macintosh lines where screen brightness is auto adjusted, not having ALS is bothersome.

      • +1

I didn't know that, thanks. Though personally I've never had ambient light sensor before so I guess I won't miss what I've never experienced.

For anyone looking at the gen 6, I found "EDUCOMM" took almost $400 off the price on my specced machine.

        • In fact I just checked, a fully specced X1 Yoga Gen 6 with that code takes $500.90 off the price. Not bad!
Could we expect better from Black Friday or should I just buy now? :)

          $2,888.10 after discount

  • Do I need a student account to access the discount? I am not a student so I do I get the deal?

    • I just used my work email (.edu.au) which worked. Failing that I would have used my daughters school address.

      • I do not have access to any .edu account/email.

  • Asian countries have a big sale tomorrow 11.11 so lenovo singapore etc

will wait and see if Australia has one too otherwise will buy

    • Do you have any advice on purchasing from Singapore store from Oz? Have you done that before? I can log in with education account, and my Australian shipping address shows up.

      • oh i havent tried to be honest but saw other people have done it here (check out the 20% ebay lenovo post just posted)

I dont think any difference but it will take longer to send. also not sure if you are meant to pay GST on incoming goods

  • Got one. Fed up with looking for the 'best deal'.

Once you have added it to the cart, you have to hit "apply coupon" to the Singles 11 prompt for the extra discount to apply. I was getting $1800+ and couldn't work out why.

    Classic PEBCAK..

    • What did you get in the end. I got the carbon because I like light weight

      • Sure, the one in the description. Added $88 for the 2 year extended 'warranty', which is about the term my laptops last.

        • Ah nice. The laws on warranty changed in Aus a few years back and now things must last 'a reasonable time'
But try telling that to the Lenovo rep lol and you'll probably go nowhere

At least the Lenovo warranty prices are reasonable

PS I got the carbon so let's compare later

  • Where could I get an access to the edustore?
    Someone can help me?

    • try asking the lenovo chat if they will quote you the education store price

  • Anyone get this shipped yet? My expected shipping date blew about by another week today, thinking about cancelling.

    • I got Lenovo carbon. Pretty happy with the price. Shipping date not shown. Some msg said early dec

      • Ah, you've been more patient than me.

My use case for it quickly fell off so I cancelled…

    • Despite saying 3 weeks delivery time whilst ordering (which the online store is still showing), Lenovo is now showing my delivery date as 09/03/2022. If this is the actual date then I'll probably be cancelling.

Four months is an eternity for a laptop, so I'm basically paying a premium and purchasing old tech.

I understand there are supply issues, however I'd almost go as far as to say this is misleading advertising.

      • Yeah I reported them to the ACCC for a couple reasons. This being one, then their misleading order cancellation policy being the other:

Para 1 of the policy states no contract has been formed untill they ship the laptop, but para 7 tries to bind you to some term that you "can't cancel an order"… Obviously the existence of a term when no contract has been formed is contradictory, but not everyone understands contracts.

You'll need to call 13 LENOVO to cancel, too. No option on the website that I could find.

        • +1

I cancelled via email or chat. Not charges or restocking fee if it hasn't been shipped yet

          • @AussieMark: I must've just been unlucky in the resistance I came up against 😞

            • @Assburg: Hehe to be fair they said they will contact the cancellation team. And then I also cancelled via email too just to make sure

I never rely on just one mode of communication for cancellations anymore haha

  • I'd have jumped on this if it included a MicroSD card reader.

    • isnt that something you just buy and plug into the usb? think i got one for $1-2

      • Nah I want one I can just leave in all the time.

        • That's what she said

  • Has anyone ordered and received one of these recently? I ordered October 22, originally was estimated to be sent Nov 13. It delays by a few days more each time, now delayed to December 10 ship date.

    • Bought one November 8 and got delayed to December 10 as well. Might cancel at this rate

      • only cancel if you can get a higher cashback 16% at moment

        • Am I missing something? What does cashback have to do with cancelling this?

          • @pear: i mean the cashback rate has gone up so if you get a better deal than worth cancelling if not then i wouldnt cancel.

            • @AussieMark: I cancelled the order through chat and was tolled they'd contact the cancellation team as well. When did U get an update about your cancellation?

Ps I'm looking to get an xps 15 during dells current sale with 12% cashback

        • When I ordered there was 14% cashback at the time, however it didn't track, so put a manual claim through which was initially denied due to coupon (which was listed on Lenovo's site), so Cashrewards put it through. Will see if it works. Tempted to get the Carbon instead if that will arrive quicker, but I wanted the MX450 for a bit of extra light gaming. Hopefully this thing will ship before the 10th!

          • @ocyrion: Sure not sure if it helps but I got the quote first then cash rewards.

That's a good cashback haha I think I got the same.

X1 also looked good too in terms of peice. but I think there will be another gen in 3-6 months so I'd rather wait for that. I'm on a gen 6 x1 carbon. Was going to see if I can sell online for like $900 since never had problems with it and perfect condition haha will see 😂

Fingers crossed I like the carbon more

            • @AussieMark: @AussieMark I originally wanted the Carbon but got sick of waiting for it to be available for order. What's your shipping ETA on it?

              • @ocyrion: I get it this week

                • @AussieMark: Sweet. They've just updated my ship date from Dec 10 to today (Slim 7 Pro), so let's see what happens. Ordered October 22.

                  • @ocyrion: Opened carbon today looks amazing but do agree with what I read the keyboard is not as good as the x1 carbon I have. Hard to explain with words but they dont go in as deep when I press and feels a bit cheaper

                  • @ocyrion: Let me know what you think of the keyboard hah

                    • @AussieMark: Hey mate, Slim 7 Pro is on the way, held up in China ATM with DHL. Did yours ship from China directly or out of Sydney and how long did it take? I tried out last year's Intel Carbon (the white one) and found the keys had decent feedback but almost no travel. The new Carbon is meant to have a better keyboard than the Slim 7 so we'll see, I'll let you know. How's the rest of the machine - performance, screen, battery etc?

                      • @ocyrion: screen looks really good but honestly only just finished the updates so far.

I do prefer grey over white but am a bit worried about finger marks or discolouration on the keyboard over time.

Yeah I have x1 carbon 6 and the keyboard is superior but the sound and the Yoga carbon looks pretty fancy pants. I'll try it properly and let you know.

Re: Shipping hmm I assume they all from china. came from DHL express today.

re: Feedback vs travel comments, never heard that before but it makes sense now haha. I was thinking shallow keys. Didnt get the MX450 geforce but may regret later.

Can probably sell my X1 carbon gen 6 for $900 or more since its in excellent coniditon and still 8 months of warranty but lets see.

                        • @AussieMark: The Carbons have several layers of paint I believe, so hopefully OK. I like the dark grey of the Slim 7, which is one of the reasons I ordered it, that and the MX450 (which may turn out pointless?) I'm upgrading from an Asus UX331UAL (8th gen i5) that only weighs 970g, bit concerned I might not like the extra weight of the Slim 7 (near 1.4kg in the 5800HS + MX450 + OLED spec). There's some hold up with DHL but hopefully I see it early next week!

The Thinkpads always have better keyboards but the 5800U and OLED will crush that machine otherwise :D

                          • @ocyrion: yeah the screen does look a hell of a lot bigger than my x1 too since it covers the full screen. The x1 has a gap at the bottom
