Was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of a free software/site that would help me to create web pages for a beginner.

ok thanks mate!
I've been using w3school for years for html references. Their site always ends up in the top listing if you Google any html/css questions.
Hi Calmerancer
Microsoft Word allows word pages to be saved as .html or .htm and can be ftp to a web site with programs like cuteftp. I use an old copy of Dreamweaver. I only use the basic htm and with the additions of description and key words. Google gives many of my web pages a high listings. Nothing like being published without some editor changing words and giving your masterpiece an entire different meaning. Good luck. For example try Google 'faded traffic signs'
I am currently learning from w3schools and the boston. I think my next step is to venture towards faded traffic signs :) people are so helpful!
W3school is very easy to read and understand the all issue.. there are many site that offers online website creation easy and fast..
HTML is easy as [action]pie[/action]
Well, it really comes down to what sort of website u will like to get ur hands on..for beginner that know abit of programming code—joomla or Drupal should be what you should play with.
However if you would just want to make a website for yourselves without all the hassle like domain and such..try below
Jimdo.com- very easy drap and drop web based developer
Weebly.com- same as jimdo but not as much personalization
Wix.com- flash website creator, best for photograph folio or designer.
Don't just learn how to build a website, learn how to understand your website will be used for..like who will be the main users and everything..the concept is also very important.
You can google webpagesthatsuck.com to understand.
Hope this helps
Hi,
If your website is mainly about publishing content I would recommend WordPress.
You can start playing with it for free here:
Wordpress started out as an easy blogging platform but has now morphed into a very versatile, easy and extentable website building tool for beginners and intermediate users.
I would start with the free version above when you're ready get an account with HostGator and ask them to install Wordpress for you. They will do it for free and help you along a little.
Wordpress is designed to be easy.
You can get many many (100s) of free plugins and templates/designs to do just about anything you want.
Doing the same with Drupal or Joomla is a lot more complex as those are full blown CMS platforms designed for developers and professional designers.
Let me know if you want more info on Wordpress or let me know what you're trying to do as it comes down to the kind of site you want to build :)
cheers

try downloading virtualbox to test first. I would install CentOS and put Apache on it. You can also go to DynDNS so that they assign you an IP to constantly direct to your dynamic IP. To put it bluntly it's probably easier to pay someone else to host your Webpages. There are lots of places to get a web page hosted just google it.
