Advice on Adding Washer in the Kitchen

Due to less space, how feasible is it to add a washing machine in the kitchen? under the sink, or next to the sink.

I will be looking to add it in granny before renting out

    • Not enough height under the sink unless you have very tall benchtops.

Anywhere you can fit a dishwasher a front loader should fit. You need power, water supply and drainage

I imagine granny wouldn't be very happy about it.

Do washing machines small enough to fit under a sink even exist?

    1. Don't think you have height to get dishwasher under sink due to sink waste pipe. There is the FP dishdrawer which is smaller in height.
2.Need to modify joinery to get dw into cabinets. Check depth as you will need at least 600mm
3.There are slimmer width dw if you are really tight on length of bench.
    2. Power under sink.
    3. Plumbing connection part would be the easy part.
    4. Cost. Depends on above. Sure you can call to get quotes or google dw prices

They're talking about a washing machine, not dishwasher.

With a title " adding washer", can't blame the confusion.

      • Ha. Gathered that after I actually read descrip once I woke up properly. Anyway tip there for DW option.

  • You better check with council first to see what the requirements are waterproofing/ dedicated clothes wash tub/ hygiene/ waste disposal and many more especially if you are intending on renting it out

Most kitchens in Europe have the washing machine in the kitchen. I think it's because the fridge takes up too much room in the laundry.

dmbminaret suggested washing clothes in dishwasher about eight months earlier. Would solve your granny problem. Why not PM each other for tips?

I'm going to go "out there" on this one.

I'm thinking if Renting to Granny she might be more comfortable in a Small Room (possibly with a bed) than in a Washing Machine wherever it is located.

Otherwise, she will always have clean (but damp clothes) you will know where she is and will always be on time for meals. She may need a snorkel.

  • Granny may like a vibrating washing machine while doing the dishes..

  • Washing machines are generally larger then a dishwasher. Might not be able to fit it in the kitchen, unless it's built for it.

If you do manage to fit it under, then get a plumber to connect to exsisitng sink drain pipe, also, the hot and cold will need to be connected to your existing hot and cold tap.
