AmEx Membership Rewards 30% Bonus Transfer Points to Marriott Bonvoy & Hilton Honours

80

Amex MR points (points you get on Explorer/platinum edge etc cards) are currently offering 30% bonus on transfer of MR points to Bonvoy & HH

Usually 3 Membership Rewards points = 2 Marriott points. Minimum transfer amount: 600 points

Simply put, usually 1MR point = 0.66 Marriott Point, with the offer 1MR point = 0.99 Marriott Point

Normal transfer rate for HH is 2 MR points = 1 Honors points. Minimum transfer amount: 2000 points

with the offer 1MR point = 0.65 HHP

As a general guideline its always good to transfer points only if you have upcoming travel plans.

For Marriott, do note they are getting rid of award chart and shifting to dynamic points pricing like HH & IHG's of the world.

Spending all my Marriott points this Christmas and not bothering till I understand how bad their dynamic pricing is first.

You can always redeem it for travel packages. Seems to be the best.

In previous years, I would easily plan and book travels 6-8 months in advance with ease.

Now, any booking regardless of timings feels like a gamble.

  • The Marriott one is potentially a hidden gem for people who know about award sweet spots as you can transfer it out to BA, JAL, AA, United and other programs. There has also been offers such as https://onemileatatime.com/united-hotel-points-promotion/ which you could wait for on top.

By my calc for most programs each 2 MR points ends up at 1.38 of the other programs which is better than VA, SQ with a direct transfer and also means on the Reserve you are earning 1.38 miles on United or AA for example which is actually pretty phenomenal. If anyone is into this sort of thing and can post an example with where we can actually fly to it would be appreciated.

    • Actually ignore this my maths is off it's actually 0.72 miles per dollar spent on the reserve which is still potentially useful but a lot of hassle.

  • I just moved my points to KrisFlyer .

  • It's much better value to transfer points to KrisFlyer (15% bonus) at the moment.

    • Probably is. The only reason I like transferring my Amex point to Marriott is because Amex is the only card offering an option in Aus to earn hotel points. Kris can still be earned via alternate cards but not Marriott.
But with recent devaluation I think it might just be one of my last transfer, unless I can find screaming value in some luxe Marriott properties.
