Offft got my 3080ti ftw3 for the same price through ple

    • which ones better? and why?

      • Stock performance will be close. FTW3 cards usually have better binning and better cooling, so better potential for overclocks.

        • what if you dont plan to overclock will there be any difference at all?

  • WTF!? $2499 for a video card? The mind truly boggles.

Where have you been when these were pushing $3k?

      • The higher end ones still do.

      • 3090s are going for 4K now lol.

        • +1

I think that's because none are LHR versions, so crypto miners have no choice.

          • @jaygee: Some of the younger generation just don't know how expensive PC's [non-gaming] use to be.

I was in awe back in 1994 when a friend bought a IBM 486 DX for $4,500. That was about a solid 3 months salary.

            • @TilacVIP: That's well beyond insane… I was at uni then and built a 486DX66 with 8Mb of RAM and there's zero chance it cost me even half that amount of cash as I just wouldn't have had it. No wonder people hated IBM.

            • @TilacVIP: That is why those 8-bit PCs were so popular in the 80's with Spectrum, Commodore and, Amstrads, then later with the 16-bit Atari's and Amiga's. PC's by the mid 90's were quite reasonable if you looked around.

@FabMan: I bought my first ever PC in 1995, not the highest end, but well spec'd when Windows 95 & the Pentium was released and I shopped around for the best possible deal, managed to get one [can't recall the exact components] but it did have the 1st Gen. Pentium, and that cost me $3,000 & my take home pay was about $550 - $600 at the time, if I recall.

From memory [its been so long] in my opinion, they were not reasonable in price, but getting cheaper yes.

                • @TilacVIP: It's been so long that I had to blow dust off those memories, but for Christmas 1994 parents got me mine for a great expense like yours. Packard Bell P60, 4MB RAM, CD-ROM and Multimedia bundle. Went to a PC Market a few months later and components were relatively cheap. The companies like Packard Bell and Gateway were charging users a massive premium to put them together and slap a label on.

I built my own from then.

Why not? 1440p is a bit low for such a card.

  • +2

I don't know how anyone can justify paying this much for a GPU if their use is just gaming. For that price you can get a decent Sony 55" 4k TV and a PS5 and have some money left for few games.

At least I can't justify paying this much to upgrade from RTX2080s which does splendid job running all my games at 1440p. Hopefully next gen GPUs will be more competitive with the new console pricing.

    • Some people dont have a GPU yet and just want the best for gaming. Unfortunately that is what gaming costs these days for the top tier (second) cards….

    • +3

Mind linking a console in stock? GPUs are at least in stock, just pre-scalped by retailers and supply chain lol

Don't expect prices to go down for next gen either. Chip shortages, plus these companies now know that people will pay exorbant prices for a card

      • +1

Block-quote plus these companies now know that people will pay exorbitant prices for a card

and who is to blame for that…..ozbargainers for one :P

      • +1

That's a bit of a tricky argument. They're rarely in stock because they always sell at MSRP. Meanwhile graphics cards are always in stock as they sell at 3 times MSRP.

        I know which one I'd rather have…

Agree with the comment that you should really only get graphics cards now if you're well off or need it for work. Otherwise gamers should go PS5, Xbox Series X and Switch, for less than one 3080TI.

    • I'm on 2080 as well, there's always room for improvement but I can run most things at a mix of high and medium settings for high framerate and VR still.

Hopeless for RTX acceleration, haven't found a game yet where it's good enough. DLSS is excellent though.

    • Some people can resell their RTX 2080 series for ~$1400 - $1500 and just have to pay the difference, which is easier to stomach :)

      • It is pretty funny how much I can sell my shitty 1050 Ti Low Profile for right now.

If I had a second computer I would hands down.

    • Don't expect prices to come down with the new GPUs. Nvidia know people are happy to pay $4k so they're likely to put the price up or keep it the same at the least, but not down.

Nvidia also have no competition so can charge whatever they want.

    • How much did you buy your current graphics card for now?

  • +1

Why not 6900xt? Better price and low electricity consumption during mining which is perfect for idle moment..

    • Good question I have no answer for but I suspect the nvidia's marketing skills and prowess is akin to apple's marketing right now in this sector.

AMD is pretty good not gonna lie but they still have a lot of stigma from the past to shake off whereas nvidia is just a solid green brand for many years to come and to go.

    • Not much in it in terms of price, and 3080ti does high res better. Not to mention gsync, dlss & raytracing, which are all worthy additions.

    • I thought the same, As far as I'm aware, 6900xt sometime outperform the 3080ti

    • DLSS is about it… and probably worth it if you want to hang on to your $2k+ card for a few years.

  • Still cheaper than a Titan so there is that I suppose.

  • PLE price used to be cheaper. They have hiked up the prices by 200-300. Not worth it now.

    • Correct, got my 2080ti ftw3 for the same price, they used to sell them for 2299

      • How long ago was that? Just trying to guage the current price increases.

        • I got my ftw3 in June from them for $2299 - while everyone else was selling them for like $2800-$3000. I'm surprised they held out on lifting prices so long, particularly when they actually had stock coming reasonably regularly.

        • I have been keeping an eye on each restock so sep-oct was 2299 now with Nov batch its 2499.

Might not be much of a difference for some people but I liked the fact that PLE was giving consumers a fair price. I probs won't be buying from them again.

      • 2080ti or 3080ti?

        I am confused

        • Sorry, 3080ti******

    • +1

yup. I've been eyeing this one for a while when it was 2199 with no stock. Then I saw it eta for end of Oct, the price went to 2399, then a week later, here we are.

  • What's the difference between this and the ultra version?
    https://www.ple.com.au/Products/646833/eVGA-GeForce-RTX-3080…

  • Is is better than MSI 3080 Ti Ventus? $2499 has always been the price for it in Centrecom. It would be a great deal if we can get it for $2200-$2300.
