How often change air filter?

Hey guys,

I just checked the air filter in my old laser and it still looks pretty good. However I haven't changed it in the 3 years I've owned it, so just wondering if I should switch it anyway.

Also a mate swears by those expensive K&n performance filters. Would I notice any difference putting these in an old clunker?

Cheers

Whenever it needs changing. Depends on km used and where used .

Don't touch K&n. Waste of money. Don't filter as well as cheap OEM filters.

Just get a supercheap auto home branded one in their next storewide discount sale.

Looks can be deceptive when it comes to air filters.

Ford Laser? , mate you would get more of a performance increase just replacing it with an el cheapo $20 special from Supercheap or Repco if it hasn't been changed in 3 years.

  • K&N is a waste on a shitbox Laser. Take your old one out and blow it out with compressed air or just buy a generic one from any auto parts store.

  • Cabin or Engine

      I'm guessing by

      old laser

That's it's probably pre cabin filters

  • Thanks guys. Just got a Sakura one off eBay. Half the price of the Ryco.
Re: K&N. I thought they sounded a bit like a gimmick too but it was a mechanic who told me they increase airflow.
Anyway I'm too tight to drop $90 on one lol

Perfect. You should get it in the next 6 months given current postage times

They do increase airflow, that's why they don't filter as well. Can't have it both ways.

    • K&N increase airflow by filtering less. They filter really good once they start to clog up but then they don't flow as much.

waste of $ using a K&N filter on such an old car. As for change frequency- depends on the conditions your car drives in. If its very dusty where you live, i'd do it every year. if its just the suburbs, once every 2-3 years is fine.

Its an old shit box laser. Just bang it out and chuck it back in again for another 3 years.

  • the colour of the filter material is a good indicator, if there's larger stuff I usually just give it a tap to break them loose.

also take note of the direction of flow, the engine side could be in perfect condition but the intake side could be clogged
