I actually do have a proper mic, I have a ride video mic go. But I always feel sad if I’m missing out on a good deal.

I think in this case it's about minimum quality, which this doesn't really meet, particularly if the deadcat isn't holding in place.

What's with the red part being hard plastic? I thought the whole point was to isolate the mic from vibration.

Looks like a Rode rip off. I'm Chinese but I still say support Rode which I believe is still Australian made too.
There is a cheap product made, because people CHOOSE to buy the cheap knock off. For the sake of a microphone that will last you ages, just buy the Rode, feels really solid and the plastic is a lot better.
