Not good for Biryani
right
India Gate Classic is one you want for premium aged basmati
aged basmati
Why does it need to be aged?
aged rice is fluffy new rice is sticky
Aged are great for low GI diet, healthy for passive people. Aged rice expands more after its cooked which gives more cooked food while saving you money.
Aged are great for low GI diet,
Best to avoid most carbs on a low GI diet…
Agree. India Gate Classic is really nice and tasty, with each grain long and fluffy.
That India gate Classic, haven't maintained its consistency with its quality over the years. I was fan of the classics but no more… Look for this link, you don't lose a penny when it's half price at 12.50
https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/155084/kat…Yes classic used to be fantastic but not the same anymore don’t know why. In saying that this deal is okay for everyday purposes and classic for pulaos and biriyanis.
Agree
Used to be good 1-2 years ago. Now it's pump and dump
Anyone tried the Katoomba brand basmati? Its 50% off at woolies. https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/155084/kat…
I find Classic the same (high) quality as before. Its a shame Woolies don't stock the Classic variety.
Zeeba promotion at Costco is a lot better deal. $40 for 20KG and that is premium basmati very close to India Gate Premium (blue pack).
In case someone do not like 20KG bags, Costco Moorabin also had box with 4 packs of 5KG.
Sweet I'm out of rice at home.
Does anyone prefer to use Basmati rice for day to day cooking over long grain, white rice?
white rice is not good for health
Does anyone know why certain basmati rice has much lower carbs (<30g per 100g) compared to most basmati rice that seems to be between 70g and 80g per 100g?
I have been selecting basmati rice based on the carb figure, and didn't even know there is "aged" basmati rice to consider.
Might be different fibre content.
Agreed, aged rice has a better fragrance and the gain is longer (& fluffier). We use to buy fresh from fields back in India/Punjab and keep them in tin containers for 5-10 years before the first use.
Guys, thoughts on Golden Sella variant? It's not India gate, but I used to love it (bought from Costco). But they no longer sell it.
Sella is excellent generally. I haven't had golden sella but 1121 sella is what I look for down at the Indian store. I prefer it to the thinner style basmatis.
This is the bad one, right?
