Cancel Car Registration from Interstate and Sell to Auto-Wrecker/Disposal

Hi folks,

So I have a 2000 Honda CR-V that I drove from Victoria to Queensland early this year and I'm looking to dispose the car as it has run its course (350,000km). The car is still registered in Victoria (VicRoad) but now located in Brisbane, QLD.

What is the best way to dispose the car safely? Is cancelling the registration from VicRoads enough? And if I cancel the registration, is it possible to sell the car unregistered in Queensland? The car still runs perfectly but hasn't been serviced in years. I am thinking of whether I should dispose it to an auto-wrecker or sell it on gumtree?

Thanks for your help

Gumtree or wreckers you will be selling it without rego/rwc(equivalent in QLD) as it would not be worth fixing any issues to get a RWC. So advertise on Gumtree and talk to wreckers and see who gives you the best price. Once you have a confirmed buyer and as soon as the deal is done cancel rego with Vicroads, surrender the plates and receive a refund for the remainder of rego left.

If it starts and runs then you'd definitely get more on GumTree than a wreckers.

You need to cancel the registration, keep the plates and then make sure you get a receipt when you sell it.
