Great price for a large screen you will regret when more hdmi 2.1 devices become available. Admittedly nothing with hdmi 2.1 is available this size for this price.

*Does not feature HDMI 2.1 input and 4K@120Hz through HDMI. All HDMI inputs are 4K@60Hz.
**Not available for 85A7G. (vrr and allm)

    • -4

No you won't. That's bullshit. At the moment there is very little reason to even need HDMI 2.1 at the moment unless you are gaming from a powerful PC and want to do 4k 120hz.

      • +7

Heard of the PS5 or Xbox Series X?

        • -1

What are you planing on playing at 4k, 120Hz on a PS5/XSX? Stardew Valley?

          • @This Guy: Literally any FPS game?

            • @reloxation: So your telling me I can play cyberpunk on a PS/XSX at 4k, 120Hz, on ultra, with raytracing and no up scaling?

You are playing at around 1280×720 120Hz up scaled, not 4k 120Hz.

              • @This Guy: Well, you never stated native 4K. DLSS tech is getting better and better so why wouldn't you use it?

                • @reloxation: The consoles use AMD GPU's which don't have Nvidia's DLSS.

Kinda clutching at straws saying 720p upscaled is 4k.

      • +7

Yes, technology has reached it's zenith, and will never improve from this point onwards.

History will remember this year, as the year we reached our technological peak. All downhill from here.

        • +1

          at the moment

          • @This Guy: I think his point is that we keep our TV's for a lot longer than just this moment.

Right now, I agree with you. HDMI 2.1 is largely wasted. A year or two in the future though, when I'd be hoping to still be using a TV that I'd payed North of $2k for? Different story.

            • +2

@Spun: It's a ~$2k 85" TV released with in two years of a cutting edge technology.

The PS5/XSX should have at least another two years before midlife upgrades (as nothing is leaking).

The chip shortage is predicted to last atleast another 12 months in most tech companies investor communication.

Nvidia is rumored to be increasing prices for next gen and cutting back production of current gen.

The only two wild card's I can see that could make future proofing with 2.1 for use in the next two years is AMD's new chiplet GPU design or an advance in frame rate smoothing technology by someone like Nvidia on a new set top box. But neither are guaranteed.

Instead of blowing $5k on 2.1 you would be better off buying this then buying a second TV in three years for $2.7k

      • Hi its me some guy who wants to game from a powerful pc and do 4k 120hz

        But i get your point

For netflix and normal viewing this is more than fine

For 4k 60hz gaming this is fine

You just have to know what it has and what you want

I wonder if this has 4:4:4 for text legibility

  • +1

Native 4K 120hz a must imho, not just for gaming

    • +4

What else do you use that mode for?

    • +2

Does that give soap opera effect?

      • +4

I bought this for $2000 with the 15% off The Good Guys a few weeks ago. Can confirm it does Soap Opera with motion features on. Great picture. Absolutely massive and was a pain finding a suitable adjustable wall mount. Super happy, amazing to get 45kg of item for the same price as a new iPhone.

        • Do you mind sharing the wall mount kit that you bought?

          • +1

@theUnderdog: Selby's has a couple. There is only one adjustable that goes up to 85, that is the one!

        • +2

I've also got a Hisense myself in 75inch 4k. Great TVs those the 2 things I hate is the remote and the vidaa OS.

          • +1

            @ufsta: Chromecast TV fixes both

    • +9

Lol no it's not a must… and the consoles are not even powerful enough to properly output at that rate without losing detail.

      • +13

Of course it's a must, who watches TV at 60hz, it should a breach of human rights if you're not experiencing YouTube videos at 4k 120hz. If you're not watching at this res, might as well not watch at all because what sort of sane humane being would subject themselves to the torture of 4k 60hz or even worse…1080p 60hz when the human eye can see 8k resolution. But did you know there are millions, if not billions, out there who do not watch in 4k 120hz. This is an issue that does not have enough awareness as it is a must. We should all start a for profit organisation where we aim to solve this plague once and for all.

        • +2

          Thanks for the laugh.

        • Where do you live that 4k 120Hz should be a human right? Watching free to air 720p on anything less than 8k 480Hz TV's should be goal-able.

  • VIDAA U5 Operating System. Is that shit tho? Like can I download more apps like binge? Or is it all what you get is what you get

    • Get a Firestick and Binge away!

      • You can't even get binge natively on a firestick.

    • +2

Get an Nvidia Shield. Definitely worth the money. Unless you can get a TV with Android OS.

      • I have a shield on my existing tv I just don't see the point in getting another device if I'm getting a new tv? If that makes sense

        • @Minte - I get your logic. This seems to be much cheaper than an equivalent ‘brand name’ product. So I’d prefer to save the cash, get a shield and have a much more pleasant experience. Plus reap the benefits of its upscaling. I haven’t done much comparison. But I’d say this + shield is cheaper than other 85’ tv. Then there’s the worry that the Hisense doesn’t have apps you use.

Most smart TV stop receiving updates within a few years. So you will eventually have to get some type of media device.

          • @StonedWizard: A few years? My approx 4yo hisense has never receiving a firmware update for vidaa, or a system update for that matter.

        • Unfortunately some tvs come with super terrible support for android apps and the google play store.

You would think they couldnt add some sort of implementation of even usable android at this price point like whats it gonna cost an extra $100-200 to add a mid range phone or tablet just to have an android google play store working tv when they could just bake it into the tv itself.. ah well

    • It has around 30 apps total. Real rubbish. But as others have said add an extra $80 and get the stick of your choice. Chromecast TV, Firestick etc. I had to do the same for my Samsung TV as well.

    • +1

The ONLY useful thing is connectivity with Google home/apple to voice control tv off/on

  • If this is your daily TV I'd expect your power bill to take a bit of a hit?

    • +1

I would be more concerned about Tracy Grimshaw's boat race on a 85incher.

    • Still uses less power than a 42" plasma

      • Hmmm, at this size I recon it will draw more..

42" Plasma would pull around 190w. A 65" TCL I looked at the other day pulled 168w.

So I'm going to say 200w plus for this.

For reference, a 42" LED draws around 40 watts.

        • What about an 85" plasma

        • Depends on plasma I guess, some 42" Panas pulled 230w

          • +1

@Ryballs: I could only find energy data on the 75" version of this, which is 250w (running HDR content). Around 170w normal. So the 85 will be a bit more than that.

A Samsung 85 running 120hz full HDR uses an eye watering 470 watts!

Did someone say we are looking to bring down global emissions?

They are very secretive about energy consumption these days.

Reality is you would be looking at a 4 - 8x increase in power usage over a standard 42 - 50" Led TV. So quite significant and people on a tight budget should factor this in.

  • Seems to be on sale on Bing Lee and JB too

  • +2

Is this the one affected by poor panel quality??

  • What's hisense like with TV'S ?
I have read mixed reviews on there lighting and OS.
I'm on the market for a new TV around this budget.

    • +2

their software and chipset always crap. Their PQ was quite good with reasonable price, but its 2021 models in Australia is worse than US models. deceiving crap

      • (h)isense deceit

  • +2

Bought TCL 85" P725 from TGG Cannington (Sales Person - Aiden) for $2,255 delivered (not including $100 cash back) and paid via gift cards.

    • +1

      Is TCL better than this?

      • +1

In-store I found both were same and SR recommended TCL over Hisense because of software only.

I bought TCL as I received better deal.

      • +1

I bought the 75 inch C725 which is the Android OS for $1690 and I think that the VIDAA vs Android thing should be a big sticking point. I have all the streaming apps and several others along with built in chromecast whereas with the Hisense and VIDAA I would have needed AppleTV or something.

Native Android OS in my opinion makes TCL the better option.

  • +1

which 2020 model is this equivalent to? more S8 than Q8?

    • +1

S8 it's ULED without Quantom or FALD vs QLED FALD of Q8

      • Cheers.

    • +1 would like to know. I have a Q8 and I'm really happy with it and because of these models have the same name as the superior US models I'm not sure which reviews I would be accurate for the Aus version.

  • +1

Interested in 85" alternatives under the 3k mark. Anyone have any suggestions? I have a 65" 2018 hisense which is OK but do miss the quality of my old plasma :(

  • +6

Make sure you're running an Apple TV / Chromecast / Nvidia Shield etc.

    because VIDAA is fkn TRASH.

  • +1

Totally agree with the above comments. VIDAA absolutely blows. Clunky and slow. No Disney+ either, so if that's your jam you'll need to connect an Xbox or external streaming device.

    • +4

If you're buying a tv and worrying about the onboard applications you're doing itty entirely wrong.

The tv is a display. All that matters is size, quality, price

Buy your own media devices for playback. Who cares what the tv ships with?

      • +1

Or just use TV OS and not have to buy another device..

I've used my LG OLEDs WebOS since 2014 and still runs the apps I need just fine.

        • -1

Ok but what if the best quality most amazing 85" OLED fully sick HDMI 2.1 display was only $1900 but you had NO PLAYBACK TOOLS AT ALL. Would you skip it?

Yeah nah, just buy a few nice devices. I run a Chromecast, PS5, Pi4

      • +1

I agree, I would rather have more tech in the display and remove the op system, speakers etc and get my own. TV should be about the picture quality, not what apps you can fill it with. Who even cares about TV speakers these days with sound bars etc

    • Disney+ is rolling out in vidaa now

  • If this is only 2k. Only 3 or 4 years until the really nice ones are a similar price.

    • -1

Yep that's what they said 3-4 years ago and you have this.

      • 3-4 years ago an 85" was 10,000 dollars……………

  • -1

Great price but looks like most of the deals people are after are for 55 inch, 85 is way to big for most rooms and talk about hording space this thing is gigantic.

    • +1

      Size queens

    • That's what she DIDN'T say.

  • IMO good price for screen size. Just plug in Android box, Firestick Google TV you are done.
