  • Too bad it's only for capital cities? You should update the title to say that. Otherwise, good find.

Too bad you have to watch it in B&W with a guy playing the piano below the screen. ;-)

      • +2

Wrong movie, although would be nice if they had The Artist for free ;)

  • +1

Ah missed out bummer, cannot wait for The Hunger Games. If it's just a fraction as good as the book, it'll be a great movie.

  • +3

    no canberra :(

    • I feel ya bro

    • +6

The Capital city of Australia is rarely considered A Capital city of Australia. :-(

  • Argh keep missing things…

  • Thanks for this :) I received the email that we're supposed to print out but does anyone know
where we have to take it? Do we take it to the ticket counter on the day?

    • Agreed - what's to stop people just printing out heaps of the email? It doesn't seem to have any unique marks on it or anything.

      • They have a list at the door. I didn't even print mine last time, I just told them my name.

        • fake facebook account = fail?

        • Well since I didn't have the email, they asked for my id. If you had a fake facebook account and printed the email, they may just accept it(as the name on the email and on their list would be the same), but if they still ask for your id, then you're screwed.

        • Cool - I suppose that makes it difficult to transfer it though? Probably can't go.

    • +1

Just look for the room with a clipboard person standing outside the door, usually with a pile of famous magazines next to them, no need to go to the counter.

  • Damn, only realised it's expired after liking it.

  • They have another 500 in season passes they are giving out now at random - this will teach me a lesson for not checking Ozbargain for a few hours…

  • Yep, got mine I think.

  • cant believe i missed this.. :(

    • +6

umm LOTR is a prime example of a book turned into a movie that was very good adaptation.

    • +5

      The godfather
      A clockwork orange
      Leaving Las Vegas
      Gone with the wind
      Rebecca
      Fight club
      The help
      Precious
      Planet of the Apes (original)
      Harry Potter series
….to name a few off the top of my head.

The ones done with care and love to the source material are often good. Those rushed to make a quick buck are often rubbish.

Exception - Twilight. Source and film are both rubbish.

    • +1

Harry Potter wasnt too bad, I really cant be bothered reading a metre thick book.

  • +2

Argh why cant they just send a white background email!

    • +1

which is why I don't print it. Comments from the facebook page from previous premieres people have just showed them the email on their phone or just told them their name.

  • -6

What? I'm just stating the facts… Movies never follow the book.. Greatest example dragon ball total flop lol.

    • +1

      Manga /= Book(Novel)

Some movies are based on book that you wouldn't expect it to be.
The Entire James Bond series is based on Sir Iam Fleming's novels with the same titles.

    • +2
      1. Movies never follow the book

      - that's pretty true, but that actually makes a movie into a good book. It's called adaption (into another medium). A tricky feat.

      1. almost every movie from.book to movie turns out to be complete rubbish

      - Not true and you're stating a generalisation, not a fact. In fact, most books to movies are actually pretty good. Here's a few more
      Jaws
      The Poseidon Adventure
      The Shining
      The green mile
      Cujo
      Bridget Jones Diary
      Minority report
      Total recall
      Trainspotting
Forrest Gump (the book was rubbish)
      Psycho
      Blade Runner
      First blood
      The Shawshank Redemption
      The Princess Bride

And hopefully soon to be added to this list
      The Hunger Games

  • I'm surprised no1 noticed the "ITS WORSE THAN WE THOUGHT"….

I hope they werent talking about the movie >.<

    • That's because it'll be for some stupid rubbish like Kristen Stewart bought 2 monkeys on a drunk bender instead of one as previously thought or something

  • .

  • is it instant win? because it saids if i won i will receive it in the mail NEXT week

    • Yea I the email instantly. I think you entered a different competition.

      • nope definately double pass to hunger games. think they might have changed the competition

        • Ah that one is the random draw.

"They still have 500 double in-season passes to giveaway. Enter your details for your chance to win, but it is a random draw."

But u should know alot of the original things in books never get shown in a movie, or instead they change it, movies like spiderman trilogy, Harry potter, Transformers, the thing, and twilight, hey never respect the movies and add unrelated crap, they only think of how much It cashes in, bet critics already hate huger games, go and check out there ratings.. Like rotten tomato.

    • +7

Yup pretty much - http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_hunger_games/ - always good to check your facts before making a call.

I have learnt a long time ago to trust nobodies opinion except my own, for all the bad examples of book to movie conversions there are plenty of ones that are great.

    • +5

Did you just class HP together with Twilight and Transformers? ಠ_ಠ

    • +4

      Bitch bitch bitch.

Why does the existence of this movie ruin the book? No-one has a gun to your head, forcing you to watch it and your beloved book will always be there.

Adaptations serve as adjuncts and companion pieces to their source material, many match or even exceed their roots. I'm a huge LOTR nerd, not a year goes by since I was 12 when I don't re-read them. But any diehard will admit the cutting of many ridiculous fantasy elements (Tom Bombadil) were a huge improvement and for most people, the movies are a better keyhole into Tolkien's world.

"hey (sic) never respect the movies and add unrelated crap"

Oh yeah. Just like; The Godfather, A Song of Ice and Fire, Silence of the Lambs.. hell MOST of Stephen King's and Philip K Dick's stories are better on film.

Of all the things you complain about getting ruined by the studio treatment you mention Transformers and Twilight. Yes. These great bastions of creativity and wonderment that just got ruined by those suits from Hollywood! How dare they!

    • +2

bet failed… Hunger Games has 100% rating on rotten tomatoes but there's no 'consensus'. 98% audience hype/want to watch the movie. but you never know… look at John Carter…

  • -4

the hunger games looks like crap on toast
