    Can you give us freebies?

    Dear Mac Nut,
Try thinking harder on pricing. This is ozbargain not David Jones. See you next week.

      freebies better

Lol If I had a dollar for every inflated price discount on OzBargain

    • Prior to the blanket free shipping on all orders they would have been more expensive. So I'm not sure where the inflation comes from?

    • inflated price discount

That's quite a claim. Put up or shut up?

Weigh down macadamia nuts with chocolate and price jack. Perfect business model.

    • We also offer raw Macadamia nuts if that is what you'd prefer, however flavoured Macadamias make up the majority of our product range and they're pretty popular too! :)

    • Boiled peanuts in shell used to be the best example. Take peanuts in shell, soak in hot water, increase price/kg.

For people sh*t canning the value proposition here take a look at their website….

"….During the warmer months we post chocolate coated nuts in an insulated bag with frozen ice packs…."

"…We ensure that we deliver them to the post office or courier as close to the pick up time as possible and we post them via express post at our cost, to ensure that your product is not ruined in the process…."

Neither of these steps come for free.

But I do have a question to you, OP:

"… Our Aussie grown flavoured Macadamias….contain upwards of 90% Australian ingredients in most instances…"

which sounds great until you get to the product page which states

    "…Contains at least: 40% Australian ingredients…"

Does this mean all-Australian macadamias but NONE of the ingredients in the chocolate are locally sourced?

    • +3

There's very little chocolate made in Australia for use in further product manufacturing by third parties, and virtually no high-quality chocolate.

      • +3

Thank you. That is correct. We only use premium quality chocolate and we are up front on the percentage of Aussie ingredients used in each flavour. Some are higher than others. However they all taste great! :)

As far as the postage goes, we don't profit on postage costs. We started out by charging actual costs from AusPost whilst offering free postage over $100 and received complaints that by the time you added the cost of post they were too expensive per kilo.

We're now one of the cheapest Macadamia nut retailers online even without the discounts.

      • A few that spring to mind are Haighs, Federation, Ratio and South Pacific.

EDIT: Good list here of bean-to-bar producers but not all offer wholesale/hospitality supply of callets, bars etc

I said on the last post I'm a sucker for Aussie farmers and producers showing up on Ozbargain.
I love the idea of farm gate and small produce but sometimes life is too busy to seek out these things and Covid restrictions have stopped weekend travels and markets where I would normally come across them.

The pricing is not entirely unreasonable - I took a look at a few other websites before I bought and it's in the ballpark even for raw macadamias never mind the fact they are posting them to you for that price too. I don't think it's fair to say you can get something cheaper at insert chosen duopoly here when it's just not the same as a smaller farmer.

In saying that - I bought 8 varieties, I have tried 3. Enjoyed the milk choc ones and moroccan, I'm not sold on the lime/black pepper but they aren't bad - just a flavour I wouldn't ordinarily choose. Postage was by express, packed well and the chocolate nuts were in a foil bubble bag with little icebricks.

Good job making changes to the pricing… I'm not going to do the calculations, still working my way through 2.5kg of macadamias and I don't need more right now haha

    • I've said it before, and I'll say it again - OzBargain is not a platform friendly for producers of high quality products serving-up sustainable discounts.

The median user here wants cheap and cheerful - NOT good value (and they cannot appreciate there is a difference). As the old saying goes, they have a champagne taste on a beer budget.

From our point of view I'd have to disagree somewhat.

Whilst we've had a few negative comments on our posts - on the whole we've actually received a heap of constructive feedback that we have taken on board and used to make changes to our online store for the better.

Not only that, but we've also received a heap of orders from OzBargainers in the background too. Which we are very greatful for. :)

    • We really appreciate your business and we're happy to hear that you are enjoying your nuts so far! We'll be here when you run out.

  • i've ordered from them, i can say they all arrived packed in very good condition and has ice packs for the chocolate ones (i was surprised at this).
the biggest difference between these and the cheap ones i can get from coles/woolies and sometimes the local shops.. is that 1) I don't get disintegrated nut bits (for eg honey macs) and 2) the nuts don't taste "stale" like its been sitting in the store for a long time and picked up smells from adjacent nuts.

    will order again.

    • Awesome! Thank you for the positive feedback and we look forward to your next order :)

  • Hi OP,

Any Idea when you will have other flavours in stock for the tasting pack? I noticed most of them are sold out

    • We've had higher than expected demand for the tasting packs. They will be fully stocked again within the next couple of weeks. Apologies for the inconvenience!

      • Thanks for the reply! :) looking forward to ordering some when you have them back in stock.
