Just got mine price matched at jb hifi

      • Do they normally match the price for Amazon?

        • +1

I think they do. Going to assume it's Aussie amazon only though

    GOTY

    • Man, the last time I played Metroid was on the SNES, it was called Super Metroid, it was so good. Worth getting at this price yeh?

      • +1

It's a very good game so yes.

      • -4

Try it on yuzu if you're not sure. I think it's a great game. Better that the previous 3d version.

        • Runs surprisingly really well on yuzu. Near flawless playback. Awesome game as well.

      • I think i still have it. 😅

      • +1

Yes, its a damn good game.

        Support the Metroid series !

    • +3

Will it beat Lawn Mowing Simulator though?

  • +2

Bought the physical version. Playing on yuzu. Just so convenient. Well worth the price.

    • +4

Bought and playing it on the switch but it looks incredible at 4k running at 144hz.

      • Does Yuzu play Castlevania at a better framerate then the switch?

    • Apology, what is yuzu?

Delivery for me shows 20th October, not 30th? I do have Prime, maybe that is why.

    • Hopefully that's correct. It showed 30th for me with Prime shipping, but I know that's happened in the past and then shows up a lot quicker.

    • Mine came up as next day delivery, must be dependent on location.

    • Pretty confident they’re pushing out delivery times to get you to pay for earlier delivery

      • nah they can't guarantee delivery because of all the delay issues with couriers and aus post. Everything I've ordered recently has arrived quickish, but not as quick as before. All have had a conservative delivery date and betten, although my screen protector ordered last monady arrived on time on saturday.

  • +2

Easily my GOTY and one of the best ever Switch games.

Smooth controls with challenging and rewarding gameplay. Absolute winner this one!

  • Can the gameplay be saved at anytime during the game?

    • +1

No but there is a lot of save points.

      • Ahhh, i am a lousy player haha need to have many saves.

        • +1

There are also a lot of checkpoints so if you fail at something you'll reload close by.

          • @Gehirn: yeah typically failed boss fights you respawn somewhere close by so that its not an issue. I usually just powered the switch off and docked it.

  • Also Metroid Dread special edition available on Amazon UK.

    • +1

So tempting to get the special edition.

    • Tried to order but they wont send it to Australia.

  • What’s the difficulty like? Can a lousy casual enjoy/complete this? Asking for a friend ;)

    • +2

I think with Metroid its not the difficulty. It was about how much percentage of side missions/items you had collected, this would give you sort of an extended ending. Most people would aim to complete 100% items etc to see the complete ending.

    • +1

I'm pretty lousy, I die alot but I enjoy it.

    • For ref I my friend liked Hollow Knight but couldnt finished it. Also had a hard time (more than a few close to throw-the-controller moments) with both Ori’s but looking back I did have a good time and may complete them again.

      • I'm only 3 areas in but so far it's difficulty is similar to others in the series which to me was easier than hollow knight. Ori was easy though so guess this sits in between the 2.

    • I've nearly finished the game and it is on the harder side of mainstream "Metroidvania" games. Not as hard as Hollow Knight, but a step up from the older Metroid games.

It is fairly forgiving with checkpoints though. The hardest parts are bosses and certain escape/evasion sequences. These always have a checkpoint right at the very beginning.

    • +3

The bosses are the only difficult part. They can be brutal, but overcoming them is part of the fun. Prepare to rage.

      • +3

Damn some of those bosses are insanely satisfying. Every death is a chance to learn how the boss acts.
That final fight was so challenging but felt so good to beat.

        • +1

Yeah, nailing the third phase of the boss was so good! Can do it without taking a hit now.

    • +2

It's difficult in the sense that you need to die a few times to learn what you need to do. It's one of those games that slowly teaches you how to use each mechanic by slamming it into your skull.

    • its hard initially, traversing the map can get you stuck as well, so just take the obvious route. Typically you gain a power and nearby there is an abiity to use that power. Often doors are also locked early on xo you kind of have to go the only way you can which is helpful. But yeah a few times I got stuck cause I went exploring, but eventually found the way out.

Wait till you have a few upgrades before exploring! once you get a certain suit and ability the map becomes much easier to navigate also.

I've got about 5 things to get from exploring. They all require some chained moves which make them hard and i've fouhgt the final boss twice and lost last night.

  • Meanwhile Kogan presale still not shipped 10 days later… RIP me

    • People have already finished the game two times…

      • It's now an official speed run game.

      • +2

Actually, few times now. The game has some fascinating sequence breaks, like carrying a shine spark across half a sector to cross a ledge normally needs space jump.

        • +1

Good thing is by the time Kogan ship it'll be retro and worth heaps more 😭

  • +1

Thanks OP - also grabbed Skyward Sword for the same price

  • $63.95 here if you have this eBay plus deal.

    • +3

Nah, I prefer Amazon, their customer service and delivery is top-notch.

Battlefield 2042 fans kept joking about EA not wanting to compete with the release of this, after the delayal of 2042's release was announced.

      • Played the Battlefield beta and it might turn out to be true…😅

  • That first review about the dog… did they seriously drop 2 stars for that sheesh

  • I've never played any games of the series, would you still recommend for a newcomer? I don't play many platforms but wondering if this takes the cake.

    • Yes I would recommend, theirs a recap on what happened on past games of the franchise on Dread. It helps you catch up somewhat. For a platform game Metroid is the only one I find with worthwhile puzzles, I haven't had any of its game at 100% completion. My GBAs have died and still haven't collected all power ups on Metroid fusion / zero mission

  • Looking for feedback on how easy/hard is this game.

For your reference I played the old SNES one, but already can't remember much about it.

Recently I got a switch and start playing again. I tried few platform games like megaman x, dead cells, ori but found myself struggling. I enjoyed playing Hades tho.

Is this going to be too hard for me?

    • +1

You will die a lot but there are a lot of checkpoints at the hard bits so you can quickly retry. Definitely recommend.

  • +6

I'm 7 hours in and it's a great game so far. I've had hollow knight experience but have not finished it because the latter is too difficult.

As a casual metroidvania player, I love the QoL updates where maps are populated and includes items (marks which is collected).

I hate stealth games and the EMMI's don't feel like stealth, but more of a chase and it's something I really enjoy and gets my heart racing. So far no tough platforming but hollow knight didn't either until much further in.

I like how forgiving the game is for death although you lose map progress to the last save or with EMMI, just before you enter EMMI sections. I felt that hollow knight was too harsh for my liking with the evergy gauge breaking and losing all currency until you return and kill the shade whereas no currency here in this game which I prefer because I like to explore.

Having played the game 50/50 on handheld and docked, it looks good on both. Easy to pick up and put down when taking public transport.

  • If you're a switch online member don't forget you can get the game vouchers to get two games for a bit more than this price - https://ec.nintendo.com/AU/en/pretickets/70020000000081. Now we just need another Big W eshop gift card sale for an even better deal …

    • Voucher is $134.95 for two games? That's more than $64*2.

      • He did say "two games for a bit more than this price", presumably meaning each game is a bit more than this price.

        • Oh I read it as getting two games for a bit more than the price of this single game.

  • Bought, thanks OP

  • +1

Amazing game, had a lot of fun with it, but was over far too quick. Not a bad thing, just was that good. Length is fine for this type of game.

    • +1

Much more gameplay if you're a completionist at least - unlocking all the gallery artwork and every single upgrade will keep players occupied for a while. Quality over quantity though. Even though it was a short game, it was excellent from start to finish.

      • +1

Couldn't agree more. What a ride.

  • I just ordered and says delivery by Oct 20., not 30

    • I'm getting Oct 21 so it may vary depending on where you live.

      • +1

I ordered this afternoon and it'll be delivered tomorrow. Pretty happy with that.

  • -6

7 hours for a sixty four dollar game. Just finished monster hunter rise and clocked in 70 hours. Doesn't seem worth it?

    • +10

If that's how you judge games, then all the Uncharted games suck, indie games should stop existing and Fortnite is the greatest game of all time

      • Wow. So aggressive. I prefer the other answer.

    • +1

Only if you play it as anything other than a Metroid game. I played 11 hours to get nearly every item/unlock. Then you have Hard difficulty. Super Metroid is also 7 1/2 hours. Probably cost more than Dread if you adjust for inflation. If we're being little more generous you're looking at 20 hours or more of entertainment if you fully enjoy what's there at a brisk pace. A decent amount of game there honestly.

      • Great answer. Thank you.

No one else seemed capable and just negged.

        • I think the negs were because you just put a question mark on the end of a statement.

      • +1

I take all of that on board but still it would have been good to have a bit more game. My time on the Samus Returns remake on 3DS (by the same developer) was 14 hours and I felt that that was long enough. Love the series, but the length is a bit of a concern to me.

        • +1

Played Samus Returns in 11 1/2 hours. You either are very good at these games or you're rushing it and barely collecting the items if you finish Dread in 7-8 hours. Super Metroid is beloved. I can finish it in 4 and 1/2 hours. Doesn't take anything away from it and is still one of the best games I've played.

  • -5

    Playing this on PC

  • +2

Worth every dollar. Hands down one of the best games this year.
Finished it last week and it's an easy GOTY contender.

  • worth waiting for a sale might be cheaper?

    • +1

I wonder if it turns out to be another Zelda Botw, never goes below $45 after 4.5 years.

      • +1

unlikely, BOTW was open world while Dread is limited on what you can explore. It might be fun for finding glitches, speedruns but those things might not be of interest to most people.

        • Now I feel bad to pay $59 for this! XD

  • RIP

  • Received delivery today (Perth). Very quick!
