Canon EOS 600D *Aussie Stock* Twin IS Lens Kit $868 JB Hi-Fi Price Match In-Store Only

200

Update: Patience everyone, you can't expect me to be online all the time. :/ On that note, the receipt has now been uploaded :).

I went down to JB HiFi today to purchase a Canon 600D. I asked the sales clerk if they would price match Kogans $868 and (expecting a no) was told that 'yes as of today we will price match Kogans website despite it being a grey market product - this was in the voice of administration'. She then went on explaining to me the difference between local and grey products as well as the war between Kogan and JB which has led to this outcome occurring.

I am more than happy to upload the receipt however a call to any JB HiFi store should be enough proof that what I say is indeed the truth.

On another note, I understand that 'price matching' isn't a deal however in the case of local vs grey stock, I think it is :)

  • that's a great bargain!

      • a low level camera?
        - what would consider a better entry level slr that is cheaper? (personally i think the 600D is slightly above an entry level slr eg 1100D)
        - or even a mid range slr that is cheaper?

whoever wanted "great" lenses - would they buy a twin lens kit - probably not - they would buy a body with better lenses (or buy this and sell the lenses and end up better off)

    back up to $1093

    • +2

It's not reflected on the website. You will need to ask a sales clerk to price match Kogan in order to get the deal.

  • Hi Hirokuro, a reciept would be great!
    Good Find!!

    • -2

until someone else can confirm, I'll post the reciept once the battery on my DSLR is recharged.

      • +3

Surely a phone picture would suffice, I doubt 18mp photo of a receipt would be necessary :P

        Reciept uploaded :)

Can you at least say which JBHiFi this was at? The poor nature of most of the sales staff at JBHiFi, even if this is an official policy I can imagine it will be a battle at most to honour it.

I'll be at Greenborough JBHiFi in about an hour, I'll see how I fair.

    • That's my local JB, let me know how you go.

  • -1

Pretty sure this doesn't meet the requirements of a 'bargain' as price matching isn't a bargain, given it can change from store to store.

  • +1

doesn't it defeat the purpose of their own grey import

    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/photo/digital-cameras/canon/600d-w-…

should have got them to match jb direct import

    • I actually did ask, if I could price match the grey from JB's site however was told no.

  • I wonder if this is the result of a response by Canon Australia to Nikon Australia's decision to match Grey Import pricing.

    • and do not forget two year warranty.
I found BingLee has all canon DSLRs with 2 yr warranty from this week.
Hope JB will do that and match grey.

  • how is Canon 600D compared to Canon 550D?

    • +1

Almost identical other than it is a newer model and has a flip out screen.

    • +1

Basically just that the 600D has a flipout screen and inbuilt wireless flash support. Other than that it's the same processor, same sensor, same quality, same features.

  • 600D vs 60D?

    • Obviously the 60D is a better camera. Surely google could of answered that for you though…

I think of the 1000/1100 and 600D as entry levels, then there is quite a big step up to 60D. Also there is a larger price jump up to the 60D than between 1100 and 600D. If you don't know the features of a DSLR, get this or the 1100. If you are actually gonna use it off full auto, and have a bit of experience, go 60D or higher.

I also think there is 0 point upgrading from 1000/1100 to this as there just aren't enough differences. Obviously its a little bit better camera but when looking at the dismal resale value of current DSLR + extra outlay to get this, it does not warrant the effort for the slight improvement.

      • I would say though, don't be put of buying a 600D. I recently bought one, It's my first venture in to DSLR, and I could't be happier. It's got a good majority of the features of the more expensive models and at this stage in my venture in to photography I don't need any more bells or whistles.

At the price point it's very very good.

      • +1

To me there are quite a lot of differences between the 1100D and the 600D. Better sensor, better image quality, better LCD, better movie mode, along with a number of other differences. If anything it's the differences between 600D and 60D that you'll notice less.

Just rang JB HiFi Mt Gravatt (QLD) He spoke to his bosses and said he can't do it due to it being a grey import site..sigh
Best he can do is just over $900

    PLEASE post the receipt

    • they aint gonna do it over the phone lol

    • +1

Theres no guarantee they will budge on the stance. None the less, you are usually far better off going in store to bargain prices. They are more likely to take you seriously if you are there in the flesh.

    Any Luck with a receipt?

    • Also would like the receipt, thanks!

      • +1

Reciept uploaded! Check the main post :D

Sorry for the delay guys, uni is a bit hectic at the moment ;)

  • This is $200 more than its predecessor the 550D (with twin lens kit), just purchased the latter so had a quick look at the differences to reassure myself.
    http://www.digitalrev.com/article/canon-eos-600d-vs-550d/ODI…
In conclusion it pretty much says if your going to be using the movie feature extensively then the 600 is worth it but in essence they are pretty much the same camera.

  • Since there is no receipt, and as per our deal posting guidelines, price match offers should not be posted against the merchant that gives you the price match but the merchant that gives the lowest price, I have moved the link to Kogan.com.au instead.

Edit: OP has now uploaded his receipt.

Just went JB to enquire about kogan price match and he flat out said there is no such policiy and there is no way they will price match it due to it being imported a item. hmm so go figure

  • +2

Chill. I can't be online all the time ;).

    Edit: Reciept Uploaded :)

  • where u brought it from ? we may just go to same store then

    • Look at the receipt.

  • OK it works :)
After checking Hirokuro's receipt a few times they matched exactly including the extended warranty.
I bought a nice Case Logic bag also.

OzB is telling me I can't vote on this (otherwise obviously rating this deal +++)
