According to Camel Camel Camel, this is the lowest price this watch has been - must be a new model due soon.

I've been using the GT2 for a year and have been very happy with it, particularly with the week long battery life (the GT2 Pro has 2 week battery life). Was thinking about upgrading to get the skiing and golf functions, plus anything else I've been missing in the GT2.

Note that NFC is currently software limited and therefore not supported with these watches in Aus. Also, if similar to the GT2, you can't stream music from the watch.

  • I was considering this, because I love the design and battery life. But its lack of smarts is what held me back. Can’t answer messages, no voice dictation, no Google Assistant or Alexa. Huawei Watch 3 Pro is already out, and apparently it’s a much smarter watch, although it’s chunkier and heavier, more expensive, and lower battery life.

    • There's a few different camps of smart watch wearers I reckon. I personally carry my phone everywhere, so don't need to answer calls or respond to messages on a tiny watch.

I just need a watch to be a standalone device when I'm on runs, paddling in the river, skiing etc. The rest of the time it can synch with my phone to send me messages and call alerts.

So the one downside for me with the GT2 Pro is the annoying manual process to sync music and podcasts to the device. If it was as simple as using spotify / castbox etc on my phone and clicking 'download to watch' or something …. great. But this watch doesn't really support that unfortunately.

I'm not considering the new GT3 Pro because it's a totally different interface, Harmony OS with a battery life similar to Samsung/Apple … along with the downside of the Huawai ban affecting app downloads and such. The GT2 Pro is effectively a totally different product in terms of values/features.

      • I think the point of a smart watch is to not have to use your phone. I can respond to any messages (text, iMessage, Facebook messenger) just by holding my wrist up to my mouth and speaking into my Apple Watch. Understands me pretty much every time no matter what I say, in multiple languages. Can also tell it to send messages to my contacts, and to call people. Really convenient in my opinion.

        • I wanted an Apple Watch to stream music, but would not get one as a) I'm not going to go on Telstra/Optus/Voda just to use the cell features and b) I don't pair with an iPhone. If it was truly standalone on it's own sim, I'd get one.

I've got this watch and my son's have the gt and GT2e. it's great as a fitness tracker and the Huawei health app has everything we need to track our runs, sleep, heartrate etc. If you don't want to continually take you watch off to charge then this is a great option as I only need to charge it once a week with all health monitoring on and running with GPS on every second day. I purchased the version with a black silicon strap and the watch stays on 24/7 even through showers and swims
