Thermal Label Printer Recommendation for Auspost/Sendle/Amazon/eBay etc.

I am looking at different thermal printers and Dymo 4XL seems a good option but it doesn't have wifi/bluetooth option. Though not mandatory but would be good to have this option as well.

Can you recommend;

1) Which one you are using ?
2) Are the cheap labels available on ebay etc. ?
3) Is it compatible with major of platforms in title ?
4) Is it wifi / bluetooth ?

I have a Soon Mark printer
Runs vis USB on the PC
Works with Auspost, Star Track, Interparcel, CP, FW, And all the majors including Sendle
Easy as pie to set up
Comes with Rolls of paper (you can usually choose more when you order)
    Grabbed mine off Ebay.

  • I use Brother QL-1100 with 102mm continuous rolls.
I needed a printer that can do both the large labels as well as smaller ones just for the address which once setup this printer can do thanks to it's cutting mechanism and continuous rolls.
Not as cheap but i can say from experience it's build quality is rock solid and isn't cheaply made unlike dymo which i upgraded from.

The QL-1100 doesn't have Bluetooth or wireless but the higher QL-1110NWB does have everything but it's also more expensive.

    • Thanks Man, I have been looking at this and I think I will go for QL-111NWB. Just to make sure;

      1) Its thermal ? As its listed under Professional Label Printer rather Thermal.
      2) Can we use economic 3rd party labels from ebay for this or they must be from brother ?

        1. Yes it's thermal.

        2. Sure can with one very minor thing, the label roll cartridge it uses is not reusable on the brother branded labels, but you can get reusable ones. I bought this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/300986471425 when i first got mine, it comes with 1 reusable roll cartridge. be sure to purchase the correct size you will be using as it's not a one size fits all labels widths.

I don't know if you would like to use the continuous rolls like i do but if you do, you have to set it up in the printer preferences on your computer so that it auto cuts at the correct label length.
        https://i.ibb.co/b3xQHpt/label-settings.png

Select Paper Size 102mm if using that size paper and then set the length to 150mm which is the length for Australia post labels (i believe they all use the same dimensions for labels)

        • Thanks. I had to lookup the meaning of cartridge lolz. I think you referred to the black thing which holds the roll and it can't be used if i try to use the brother labels on it ?

I suppose that brother QL-1110NWB will come with its own cartridge that can be used on brother labels, if I intend to do so ?

Is there any added advantage of using continuous roll ?

@ChipsChicky: brother labels all come with the "black thing" haha every time you buy there branded labels, they cannot be removed without breaking it hence the need for the reusable one.

Continuous was cheaper last time i worked out the cost per label, and at least for me i can use the software and print any length easily. (i use mine for Aus post and smaller address only labels.

            • @Axelstrife: Lolz, thanks man .. you pointed me in the right direction .. with so many label writers, its really overwhelming amount of info on the net :)

Will just confirm with brother helpline now that if it can be connected via wifi to multiple devices.

If you want a good quality one use a Zebra.

    Buy once cry once.

    • Is there any particular in your mind like brother QL-1110NWB ?

  • Can't go wrong with Brother.
What size labels do you need for Auspost/Sendle/Amazon/eBay etc ?

    • I liked brother QL-1110NWB alot. Seems it ticks all the boxes. I am after sizes for Auspost/Sendle/Amazon/eBay.

    • Yeah, I posted after seeing all those posts. Those are bit old posts and with so many thermal label printers coming into the market, you never know which one is going good atm.

I settled for Dymo 4xl after reading all those posts but going for bother brother QL-1110NWB after this post.

We got the Dymo 4XL for the 6" by 4" postage label stickers, which is in addition to the Dymo 450 Turbo we use for barcoding stock.

Once the drivers are installed they both work as native Windows printers, so all our cloud-based inventory & POS software just works, including AusPost labels, via Chrome.

Didn't bother with wifi printers as:

    a) we're be using a desktop for bulk data entry that you simply can't do on an iPad or other portable device that would benefit from wifi, and
    b) iPad printing is horrendous. Nightmarish.

We had so much trouble with our POS trying to print from the iPads that we switched to a touchscreen convertible laptop instead for native printing (to an Epson TM-m30 via ethernet).

Generic labels are easily source on eBay and work perfectly fine for all sticker and thermal printers.

    • Thanks, my issue is that due to less space, I am reluctant to setup a separate laptop for printing only. Seems the brother brother QL-1110NWB, will be good, especially with CUTTER included in it, which i believe is missing in dymo 4xl.

Cutters aren't required for dymo and compatible labels, they're precut on the roll to the exact dimensions.

        • oh yeah, I forgot that I saw this in videos. Dymo 5XL Pro is expected in Feb 2022 (wireless) but its really difficult to wait till then.

Brother has a few units that could work!

    • Thanks, brother QL-1110NWB seems good.
