Speaker set up for New Home under $1000

Hey all,

Im moving to a new home soon and have started researching my new entertainment set up.

Likely going with a mid range 75" tv (keeping an eye out here for a bargain) but my knowledge is lacking in the audio department.

Details:
Open plan living kitchen, dining and living in the same room
Content is wide ranging - sport (mostly through kayo/optus sport) + free to air + usual streaming suspects
previous setup was a basic Samsung soundbar

Would like to have some sort of smart capability (to control/play Spotify in the background)

Some initial thinking was a Sonos Beam + 2 sonos ones (around 1200 but hoping for a decent black friday special) but would love some advice.

Cheers

    Can’t go past Sonos.

    • Would I be missing out without getting the sub? seems to be super pricey

I'd agree that Sonos is probably the one stop item that will give good sound with minimal items/parts.

An external/additional subwoofer will always be more boomy and oomfy than the any in-built bass.

Maybe just buy in parts, get the sonos alone and if you find it lacking, then get the subwoofer

WIth respect to the overall choice of sound system, other factors include the space you have and wiring etc. I run a amplifier/receiver with speakers and I'm very critical of sound clarity as, to me, that is 50% of the movie experience.

    • Fair - there's no existing wiring and the space is mixed use so i want to avoid cluttering it too much.

Depends if you want a quality sound experience, yes Sonos is good but it will never replace a dedicated ATMOS system with discrete speakers.

IMHO given the money it'll be very rewarding to pick up some second hand speakers (Bowers and Wilkins, KEF, Klipsch, Polk for next to nothing off Gumtree/marketplace and pair with an Atmos amp ($500-$700) it'll get a better result than the sonos bar. I find once you have a smart TV most things go through it and the connectivity of the soundbar doesn't really factor in.

Also soundbars are constantly changing and more prone to technological obsolesence. I've had my 5.1 speaker system for 10 years now and other than the amp i could still sell the speakers for the same price as i bought them for.

    • Thanks, will see what I can find on marketplace

  • Save your money for a Sony HT-A9. All sound bar and wireless tech are now obsolete and they will be playing catch up.

    • looks cool but dont think i'll get approval from the boss on that one
