Yeah, 5th gen vs current 9th gen, I ordered my 256gb from apple for $679, though delivery date is early Nov.
The new iPad Mini is 6th generation, so this deal is only one version old.

Get the new mini, it is way better.
With this offer effectively giving you 15% off Apple Gift cards then I don't see why you wouldn't spend a little extra for the gen 6. I just did :)

Just note there is a huge performance difference between this one and the current mini, and the price difference isnt even that much (especially if you have access to Apple education pricing)
