It's probs not worth it. The 20% off is a decent deal; just this new version is a USB-C version of the QC45 II (with one extra mic).

You're better off buying the older micro-USB QC45 II's or spending slightly more for the 700s.

    • +33

Huh? That's not accurate, right? I believe in both cases you wanted to actually type QC35 II.

      • +8

        My bad! Hadn't had a coffee yet…

I should know better too, considering I own the QC35s lol.

        • +8

Didn't downvote you, just for the record. Typo downvote seems harsh af. I knew what you meant. I've joined you on the coffee train bro.

Only thought I had was doesn't seem like QC35II (although cheaper) is massively cheaper than the 45. I realise you can get decent deal. Feels like USB-C alone is almost worth the premium. And I thought the 700s wouldn't be massively better than the 45. I'm a fan. Had the QC35 II for years, sold them to move to the Sony XM4 - regret it ever since. Might jump on the 45 I think just so I'm at least as happy as I was back in my QC35 II days.

          • @seamonkey: Cheers (though can't let the little things bother you lol).

I got the QC35 II in 2018 for $330, recently I've seen them on Amazon for ~$270. In 2019 I got my bro the 700s for $463.

Mine always had this weird pairing/dropout issue if I tilted my head opposite to the pocket my phone was in, annoying af. Recently, the foam of one cup has started to break out, so time to upgrade.

Basically in the same position as you -
Do I buy this for ~$400 and USB-C (which is great).
            Snag 700s for ~$450.
QC35 II for ~$250? (They should drop in price when the 400s release).
            Sony whatever?

@TogTogTogTog: You can buy replacement earpads for $10-15 on eBay. I bought my QC35 in jan 2017 and have been great to use since then. Only had to replace the ear pads once.

              • @jedimaster: Ohh thanks. I'll do that :)

              • @jedimaster: Just be aware that unless they're the official Bose earpads then they will likely not offer the exact same experience (cushioning, noise isolation, temperature, etc). I swapped mine with a pair from Kogan or Amazon as they were falling apart, and every review said the same thing. I now have slightly less noise isolation and a my ears get a little warmer than they used to thanks to the change in material and padding.

              • @dimant: Zip Pay Between 12-1pm in store for a $30 cash back this week too I think.
                on the 700's

Or maybe you could get Prezee / Myer gift cards via the Prezee App to get $30 cash back on the Myer QC45 deal

    • I don’t think there has been a QC45 version 2 yet?

      • +1

Nah I meant QC35 II. Everything else is correct, I just hadn't woken up lol

  • +1

Will wait for <$350 deal. Glad to see them dropping the price.

    • +7

      make that $299

      • +1

        That will be great

  • these will surely drop more, defs wait a bit if you can

    • +5

That's the best way to save money. Keep waiting for a price reduction, and then the new model.

You'll never buy anything so will have heaps!

      • +6

Still waiting for housing price reduction!

        • I've been on that list for a years

Unfortunately I can’t use over-ear headphones because the cushioning material gathers dust mites, and I’m allergic to dust mites. I would have to vacuum the headphones nearly every time I use them, otherwise I’d be scratching my ears within a few minutes of putting them on. Is nobody else affected by this issue?

    • +28

This is the first I have ever heard of this issue. Sorry man.

    • +5

What about storing them in a plastic bag that's sealed when not in use?

      • What would that do?

        • +8

Keep the dust mites inside :-)

          • @dainese: Just microwave the bag/headset? 🤷

    • Does everything have dust mites

      • +3

Even the mites can get mites…

It's just mites all the way down

    • +2

Wow, I feel bad for you. I have allergy and the dust mites ruin my teen years as I did not know how to manage it.

Only after I found out it was dust did I removed all the carpet in the house and change to wooden floor did I solve my problem

    • Damn that sucks dude. I was watching a review for these the other day and it seems that the headband has been updated to a silicone like material rather than cloth.

      Maybe that would help?

    • -1

Uhhhh why do you have dustmites everywhere that they're an issue for you?

And everyone is allergic to dust mites by definition.

    • +2

Are you sure its mites? Mites are everywhere. It might be irritation from the sweat or PU-leather that's on there?

    • Hey! I have a severe dust mite allergy (I've done many a test at an allergist), but have no issues with my QC 35's. They're not a trigger for me, at all.

I'm not saying that you're wrong (all bodies are different), but it could be the material in the headset instead.

Either way, no reason for you to use them if they irritate you!

    • Never had this problem.

  • +4

phew lucky you added the disclaimer i was gonna not buy it

    • "I don't think that word means what you think it means"

  • Ohhh. So next version will be QC55, then QC65…?

    • +1

Logically that's what you would think. But people in marketing departments have to justify their salaries so they will probably come up with some new name instead.

    • +2

      QC45 Pro
      QC55
      QC55 Ultra

      • +1

        You forgot QC45-b

    • They did have QC15 and QC25, which all are improvements

  • +2

    googling a birthday present

My birthday is next week OP. and ur my best friend 😛

  • Bose employee portal it's 324.97

    • +3

Any chance you could get us in 😅

    • I see them as 374.96 on my companies Bose partner and employee portal and bought a pair. No regrets at all, I really like them. $324 is a bargain.

  • These vs XM4’s?

    • +1

Not quite a fair comparison - the XM4s are in competition with the Bose 700s. From what I understand, if you’re going to be using your headphones to also take calls or use for online meetings then Bose is the way to go. If it’s a listening use-case then the XM4s are the way to go.

      • Cheers for the input mate, the call quality is something I feel like I don’t need but want

  • +6

Feels like a rip off from Bose…
Oh yeah just chuck usb-c in it boys and she's good to go
You gotta be crazy to pay the full retail for these… They even have the same drivers as the QC35 II

    • +3

Yep, going by the comparisons I’ve seen, there appears to be little to no improvement. I’ll be holding onto my 35 II.

  • Seems to be reports these perform really badly when there's wind. Maybe a software issue.

    • +1

When noise cancelling is on high my QC35 II can't handle wind properly and is obviously trying to cancel it out and makes weird noises. Turning it to low noise cancelling typically completely eliminates this.
I've never used the QC45 but I wonder if it's the same thing.

      • On my QC45's I can hear it automatically lower noise canceling when I start a call and raise it when the call finishes.

    • +1

I own these and can confirm…..
A huge shame because they’re everything I wanted in a QC35 upgrade. Thankfully Bose has 90 day return policy.

      • Yeah, I purchased the QC45 at launch as My XM3's got destroyed by my brothers dog. The NC is MUCH better on the XM3 (and I'm assuming the XM4).
My use case - General TV/Movie watching but we have 2 dogs. They like to play with each other, run around the house and bark etc.
On the XM3, I couldn't hear that at all, even when they are right next to me. On the QC45, I can hear everything clear as day. Very distracting when watching something (hence the headphones) so these are getting returned and going to the XM4's

    • +3

this is common for anc headphones in general, just turn the anc to low in windy conditions and itll be fine

    • I think that's an issue with most noise-cancelling headphones. The headphones use microphones to detect external noises and counteract them. Annoying but inevitable.

    • Looks like we might need to wait for QC 45 II

    • Not much (good) comparisons yet. But did manage to find this:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOd_oip-bMA

Seems like his preference is something like:
      XM3 < QC 35ii < QC 45 < XM4

  • +2

I'd say wait for the reviews on YouTube. Need a comparison between the QC35II and XM4 before splashing $$$.

    • +1

      QC700 (mrs w) v XM4 (me)

      QC700 better NC

XM4 better SQ out of box. Slight tweak to sound (drop 400Hz by - 1, +2 1k and +4 at 2.5k) becomes a good step above QC700. IMHO :)

  • +1

called JB to price match, they sent me link which gives me final price as $399.96.
EDIT: link expired after purchase was made. thought i could share it in the post :(

    • I was also able to get JB Hi-Fi to price match - thanks for the tip, wouldn't have thought of that otherwise.

      • What's the plus of price matching at JB than ordering it through Myer?

        • JB's headsets deliver the sound sooner, in some cases, before you even hit Play

          1. I can pick up from JB immediately, whereas Myer doesn't release until 25 October (bought as a gift for my partner's birthday this weekend).
          2. JB click-n-collect in Melbourne is much smoother than Myer (time matters to me).
  • Wow I got my NCH700 for $330 hard to believe that this is a bargain…

    • Is NCH700 better than QC45?

      • Better but less comfortable.

  • +3

Don't forget targeted Commbank Rewards spend $100 get $10 cashback also if you want to stack.

  • Am I the only person with a qc35 (not the series II)?XD This thing has been with me for years and is still working very well no complain at all!

    • +1

I'm still using QC25's every day after 2 sets of ear cups, 2 jack cables, 2 airline adapters and a fair few AAA's I think it's upgrade time.

    • +2

I'd have done the same except QC35s are crap for phone calls as its waaaay too loud. Even in a quiet office people were saying that I sound like I was at the pub. I know a few other people who reported the same thing with their QC35s. For purely music yeah no real reason to change except first world problems re: annoying micro-USB

      • I rarely use it to answer phone calls, only for musics. And trust me, I do know what it sounds like in a quite place XD

      • I second this, I had the QC35's and received a lot of complaints from people on the other side whenever I was typing (even on a non-mechanical keyboard).
It's a real shame since they were so damn good!

I upgraded to the Bose NCH700's and no longer get that kind of feedback, the way it removes/quietens background noise is phenomenal

They're not perfect though, my wife doesn't find the NCH700's as comfortable as the QC35's and calls via PC seem to behave differently from calls via phone

You can't game with them if you want to also use the microphone

Lastly, the battery life went from 30hrs on the QC35 to around 20hrs on the NCH700s

    • +1

I also have the qc35 II, not looking to upgrade (but bought my partner the newer qc45's as a gift, because I'm lovely) - will try and report if any difference

      • That is so sweet, and you can also try it for sure. I may try to say hi to any couple with qc35II and qc45 from now on

  • +1

Is the microphone on this any good? Would use mostly for Teams meeting/Slack call.

    • This is pretty new.so i guess wait for few weeks

  • You may as well get the AirPod Max at this price and enjoy the huge step up in build quality, sound quality, noise quality, call quality, comfort and usability.

    • Can you connect AirPod Max to airline infotainment?
