The Casio S-VPAM calculator series was a revolution in classrooms. Finally you could draw ( . Y . ) on the screen

  • The beige actually looks quite nice

  • Can I solve fractional differential equations on this?

    • Can

You are probably not smart enough

      But I can

        I love lamp

          That escalated quickly

  • I bought a pair of the negative display watches for my kids, 10 and 12. They love the watches, but just setting the time gave me a headache. OTOH why would you look at a watch for more than about 3 seconds…? They are proper chunky on a kids wrist too, FWIW.

    • Do they ever wear them? Would it be too chunky for an 8 yr old?

  • Those tv remote watches were the bomb

    • Yep. I remember people used to annoy the teachers with that by changing channel/turning TV off whenever they played videos LOL

  • Ahh I used to love these watches a couple years back when I was in school. It was so cool to have a calculator on your wrist.

Now I look back and realize how rare it is to actually require a calculator… And then not use your phone to calculate it instead of the watch.

    • Phone calculator can be annoying when you need to use a calculator frequently. TBH

      • When you constantly have your phone out anyway, it doesn't really become much of an issue. My 2 minute response time to your comment should back me up here :)

    • I could see this maybe being handy for some occupations where you are separated from your phone for a bit and struggle at mental maths.

I work in a lab where it's "discouraged" to handle a phone… you know, in the unlikely scenario you touch something nasty, touch the phone and then answer a call. We have calculators in the lab but what if you had one on your wrist that you didn't have to remember to take with you to the balances..

      • I would have thought phones in the lab are discouraged because phones are generally nasty slabs of germs and you could compromise the safety of elements in the lab if you're touching your phone and then handling whatever it is you handle in there.

  • Can someone please explain to me the fascination behind these calculator watches.

It’s all about the nostalgia. In the 80’s every kid wanted one to show off at school.

      • +1

        pretty much…
i had a silver one and even in primary school it chuffed my bits!

      • +2

Totally 80's kit… I'm tempted to get one because as a kid we were poor and didn't have "luxuries" like this. Can finally fill that part of me that felt like I was missing out.

I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet… But your kids are gonna love it.

I bought two from the last deal for my kids. Tempted to get this one for me!!

    • do it. you have to now

My favourite colour as well….. damnit

        Edit.. oh well. Done :)

  • I bought one from a previous deal and I have to say the buttons are very small and hard to use if you don't have little baby fingers. It doesn't have a negative display I don't think so can't comment there

    • it is a watch so space is limited…
think of it as the ultimate nerds tool watch and then you get it

No hex functions on this one. :-(

I've had several Casio calculator watches. My favourite was the scientific one with the hex/octal modes. :-) That one didn't have buttons like this one does.

Buttons make it easier to use, but also add another point of failure, because dust can get in and jam the buttons. (Yes, clearly I wore successive iterations of these for years.)
