Patron XO Café Liquor Permanently Discontinued - Are We in for Great Deals, or Horrific Price Gouging?

If you haven't heard the extremely sad news, Patron Café is being permanently discontinued. As an OzB favourite, and an all-time-great-night-starter, this will come as distressing news to many of us! The coffee liqueur, somehow marketed as a tequila, is 33% - higher than pretty much any other coffee liqueur/tequila on the market.

Wondering if, within the great pantheon of ill-advised product discontinuations, OzBargainers have any thoughts/recollections on whether we're in for some absolute bargains, or some serious price gouging?

      Same as what happened to the Bacardi 151 most probably (I've already had customers in today running around town and buying up everything available)

        151 was an absolute favourite. I don't drink much so it was over a year before I found out it was discontinued. Completely missed out on stocking up. So devo.

    I first thought Patron Cafe was an actual cafe and not a drink…

    This brand gets you like.. 90% of the experience for a fraction of the price.

    Don’t get me wrong, I love the patron one but god it’s expensive for what it is.

      It's on clearance and out of stock everywhere.

      There's no real stock in Vic as far as I can see. Stores that show in stock, you can't order for pickup. Delivery says available, but again, get to the checkout and it says out of stock. Looks like there has already been a rush on stock

    Still got half a bottle left for at home espresso martinis or on the rocks…. thats a shame. O well…. back to Mr.Blacks it is then.

      Mr Black is my go to drink. First time I drank them was when they had a display at the Royal Melbourne Show years ago and they have gotten better since. Their cross blend with St. Ali is top tier

    it sure was one of the shots of choice at many nightclubs adventures.
    often the bartender would put sugar around the rim of the shot glass with the Cafe Patrons shots.
    oh miss those days.
    Kids these days stuck in lockdowns don't know what they've missed out on.

    Price gouging was horrific indeed. Have it in one of my cocktails and serve it as a shot as well. Heard of the news too late, all the suppliers (including industry only) were out of stock. Managed to grab 1 year supply by going to independent bottle shops in and around my area. Also grabbed one of those https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_ER_1000004770_15147… to test, and not many would be able to tell the difference, specially in a cocktail.
    Many were selling those on ebay for $300 or so. Still cant wrap my head around on the real reason patron would discontinue this, I bet it sells well. They are probably wanting to make huge margins on current stock then will revive it in 18 months.
