Damn good beans, I always go Sumatra

  • +2

Best coffee for the price.Sumatra is awesome.

  • How's the decaf? Has anyone tried it yet?

We love Sumatra followed by Enterprise. Twilight was so-so for us (we are espresso drinkers, perhaps Twilight would have been better with milk).

    • I've just started on some of their decaf I added to the last Sumatra deal, I don't think they have had it for long. I asked them a long while ago if they had decaf, because if they did I could do all my coffee shopping at the one store because the other blends are so nice.

Typical dark roast you tend to get with most decaf. I mix it 50/50 for a lower caffeine hit later in the day and mostly drink it black, like an americano I guess, or I grind some to take to the office for the aeropress. To me its nothing special (but maybe thats my technique) probably a bit nicer in the aeropress. I did have some from the Timely Coffee deal from a while back that I quite liked.

    • We love Sumatra followed by Enterprise.

How would you describe the difference between the two?

      • Sumatra is just really rich, full bodied and flavoursome. It's super nice. Enterprise is great too but just lacks that wow factor (in my opinion). I have a long black and partner has an espresso, sometimes with a dash of milk. So your experience may vary depending on how you take your coffee.

        • I have mine with bonsoy so really need something that'll cut through that flavour. More caffeine in the Sumatra so maybe that is what is giving you that wow factor :)

  • Sumatra vs Enterprise? Anyone tried and can give their thoughts? I usually make cappuccinos so which would be better?

    • Enterprise seems most popular according to the poll.

But we (partner & I) personally prefer Sumatra over Enterprise, although we have our coffees black.

    • I prefer Sumatra

    • I prefer Enterprise, my wife prefers Sumatra. We alternate.

If it was entirely up to me I'd drink Twilight, the rich and creamy one with a hint of cocoa (it's very much a coffee, not a mocha). Unfortunately my wife hated that one!

Twilight gets such mixed reviews. We really didn't like Twilight much, to our surprise, because some of the reviews for it were glowing!

        • It just somehow sits better with me when I drink it. Sumatra is somehow too strong, Twilight is a more laid-back experience and I like the smooth taste. I'm 51 and I wasn't a coffee drinker until I was 39, so maybe my palate for coffee is quite different.

    • I'm just coming to an end of a bag of Sumatra from the 40% off deal…. highly recommended!

    • I like Enterprise better.

      • How would you describe the difference between the two?

    • Tried both, I prefer Sumatra

  • Never tried Airjo before, but I'll give them a go - ordered both the Colombia and Enterprise blends.

  • I was hoping to see undercover roaster with some good deals as usual, but I guess I’ll get some of it

  • Anyone know if they offer a filter roast option?

    • I drink filter and usually buy their Twilight and Pegasus blends (light roast)

      • Beauty, thanks 👍

  • I always have my coffee as a Long Black, is sumatra the go-to for black coffee too?

  • +1

O really like the Saratoga…. But it could be because t reminds me of the odd couples version of you're so vain, where the rhyming of Saratoga and nova Scotia is brought into question :)

  • How does the Sumatra compare to Market Lane, Ona or Sensory Lab?

    • More importantly, how does it compare to good coffee brands like Seven Seeds?

      • I would also like to know.

  • Bought 1kg of Sumatra, Enterprise & Twilight. I usually just buy my beans at Woolies (whatever is on special). Hoping Ozb pulls through and these are a good buy!

    • Nice, same category as me - just don't make the mistake of opening all three at once or you'll have at least 2kg of stale beans!

Nice timing. Just coming to an end of my bag of Sumatra, which was fantastic. Just ordered Enterprise to try… Thanks OP!

  • Any suggestions for cold brew?

    • +2

Currently using Columbia for cold drip, it's very tasty.

  • Thanks OP,

I've purchased the Enterprise 1kg bag to try :)

  • Thanks picked up the DECAF BLEND - (SMOOTH & MELLOW) to try. Will report back, as I know the question has been asked a few times what it is like. Where are these roasted and where are they shipped from?

Edit: from the videos, it looks like Brisbane.

    • +1

Pretty sure it's the Gold Coast.

  • Thanks, decided to follow the herd. The FOMO was strong for this.

  • I bought the Sumatra previously, but found it quite difficult to extract as an espresso drink and didn't really enjoy it. I have a Breville infuser and Eureka Mignon grinder. I'm going to give one of the medium roasts a go and see if that's any better.

    Went with the Colombia

  • Can i add the code after i 'checkout' with paypal or is it going to just charge me

    • There is a paypal option even on the final step of the checkout too.

  • OP when does this code expire?

    • Sunday midnight

  • How long does a bag last?

    • total grams / grams per dose = X days

      • ah sorry i meant how long are the beans good for.

        • Unopened bag in most places around Aus at this time of year will stay similar freshness for the next 3 months in a pantry. Then another 2 months deteriorating through summer.
Open beans should be stored in an airtight container - have a quick google for good coffee storage tips!

          • @Jengel: 3 months? Many here on OzB say within 1 to 2 months of roasted date?

            • @[Deactivated]: That may be better advice then - but I've also been warned off using any beans less than a week after roasting date as they can be too fresh!

              • @Jengel: Yes, I agree. I read that too. Ordered this airjo to see how it goes. Hope they have roasted date printed on it.

              • +1

@Jengel: Agree with that, many beans need 1-2 weeks after roast, during which time they will also need to de-gas (the reason for the valve in the packaging, and I mention in case readers have intentions of transferring directly to an airtight container). Rarely, a roast may also be very oily when too fresh, and cause problems when grinding. All of this is very dependant on the bean and the roaster.

There can be all sorts of reasons why some people don't like beans too soon or too long after roasting. Some of it relates to taste and feel preferences, but may also have to do with the method of brewing. Use your own tasting as a guide, and mix it up with trying something different every now and then. Personally I've found cleanliness of equipment, measurement of water+beans, and quality of bean/roast to be the biggest factors for me, but everyone is different.

  • Can you get delayed delivery?

    • pretty sure Airjo don't offer delayed delivery, seen the rep's comment previously on this topic

      • OK, thanks for the info!

  • Haven't received my order from September 27. Pretty shitty tbh.

    • +1

Have you contacted them? My order is always arrives within 2-3 days max. It may be a Australia Post issue

      • All sorted. Getting a new shipment. Great customer service.

    • I ordered Friday night and already received my shipping notification. Is it just stuck in shipping hell?
