SRC20AB Soundbar with Sony x9500h TV Foxtel IQ4, what cable to buy?

What is the best way of connecting the above items? I know the Yamaha soundbar can be connected via HDMI or optical. Which one should I use and what brands of cable are good quality without being expensive? How is the Comsol Premium 4K HDMI Cable with Ethernet 1.5m Product Code: COHDMI015 from Officeworks, or is this the wrong sort of cable? Or should I go one of the Belkin cables for $50? I only need 1m cable.
what about EZYHD Cables like this one? https://www.ezyhd.com.au/product/hdmi-cables/?doing_wp_cron=…

I use these. They are certified so can deliver the bandwidth advertised and at two for ~$20, they're good value. One end into your sound bar, the other end into the ARC port on the TV.

  • I guess the other question I should be asking is…..with the basic soundbar, is the optical cable that is included with it a viable option? I was told there may not be that much difference in sound quality between that an HDMI cable into the ARC ports. Is this true? If it is I will save my money, lol.

    • With a basic soundbar, save your money and use the optical cable. Also plug your IQ4 directly into the TV.

If you have an expensive AV Receiver, then it makes sense to connect it via HDMI to the TVs ARC port (and connect other devices to the AV Receiver).

thanks, that's what I thought might be the best option

The main difference would be losing the integration you get as part of the HDMI-CEC standard. It won't turn on with the TV automatically, and you can't control the volume with the TV remote, etc. If you don't care about that, then optical is fine.
