Is This Smoke Alarm from Banggood Compliant?

Hi friends,

I want to replace old smoke alarms in my house with ones I found on Banggood website. I am wondering if there are any Australian standards the product should comply before I buy them. Below is the link/description of the alarm that I want to install.

I'll appreciate any response to help me.

Smoke alarms must meet the Australian Standard AS 3786 and complying models can be found at most electrical appliance or hardware stores.

    https://www.vba.vic.gov.au/consumers/guides/smoke-alarms
It's a Victorian link, but AS3786 is a national-level standard that all states have adopted.

They need to be hardwired into the house nowadays, do they not?

For a new house yes but not for a retrofit of an older house.

In Qld you can also use the new 10 year lithium battery detectors that communicate wirelessly, but they must be interconnected (rentals by Jan 2022, owner occupied homes phased in over the next few years).

Why so sophisticated, on something that could save your friends life? Let alone safety compliance

Have a basic one from Bunnings installed alongside something like yours if you want remote fire detection.

    (at Heaven's gate)

    Q: Why did you die?

A: I wanted the flashing bling bling LEDs on my smokie! Check my app notification! :)

They must comply with AS 3786:2014. You should ideally have them wired into mains power for failsafe too.

  • You can get them at Bunnings for same price

Just spend the extra 20bucks and buy a quality alarm from quell or hpm or clipsal

seriously, scrimping on safety gear has to be a nomination for a Darwin award

buy all the same brand, as some of the hardwired / battery backup alarms have interlinking so if an alarm goes off in your garage, every detector in your house goes off

I have one in the garage and it goes off every time I use the petrol leaf blower in it, which sets off all the upstairs alarms

  • Presumably OP is after the wifi component of this item rather than trying to save $$.

then buy one which you know 100% complies with AS/NZS then, not some cheap piece of junk from some crap dropship website

      https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology…

try the google nest ones. "It is certified to Australian standard AS 3786:2014."

        Great advice.

      • You never know, OP might just now. Their enquiry was about Aust Standard compliance and now they have their answer - at the time of posting, they didn't know.

What exactly does the wifi do for you??

Those things are fuggin loud and will alert the dead

I'm guessing it will give you a notification when your house is burning down so you'll be able to log into your Nest/Eufy/Reolink/Arlo cams and watch it burn down in real time??

      • The Nest alarms interlink using your Wifi, they also can be configured to be a nightlight, give CO warnings etc.

I have had several cheap quest alarms from Bunnings play up after a couple of years, so trying Nest now. Also I have a 3d printer in another building down the back and would like to hear an alarm in the house if it fires

  • Thank you everyone for the advice. I think I'll go with the wired ones from Bunnings as the previous ones are wired.
