A downvote for saying thank you? Wow.

  • What do people actually think about the bellroy gear?

I bought a bellroy wallet a few years ago after all the rage and it just didn't last. Looked like shit in 6 months.

Not sure if I'm just rough with them , or this is just normal leather behavior. I've moved to a Dangoo wallet(D-Tex and steel) and that's help up very well so far but it's only been about 6 months.

I've got quite a few Bellroy products and most of them have lasted with using them almost every day. I've had my black Hide and Seek wallet for over 5 years and it's held up. Although my friends have the caramel coloured one and it's looking quite rough, but still functional.

The Classic Backpack (Plus) is my current daily bag for work. I've had it for about a year and so far so good. I find it comfortable and has enough space and compartments for what I use.

      • Interesting, might just be the type of leather I had or something.

    • My black slim sleeve wallet is still going strong after a few years. I'd be happy with its appearance if it was a few weeks old.

My iPhone case deteriorated badly and quickly, but that might be the same for any case that has the plastic edges, as opposed to something like the Apple leather case which I believe is one piece of continuous leather. Anyway, would avoid the Bellroy phone cases.

      • maybe dependent on the case? I've had two different Bellroy phone cases and they've been great.

just ordered another too so touchwood it remains the same experience!

I’ve got one of the little card sleeve ones in brown leather. It’s about… wow I checked my email for the receipt, it’s exactly three years old to the day. What are the odds? 1/365 I guess.

Anyway it’s been in my pocket almost every day at some point but granted it does sit around on tables a fair bit. I rode my bike to work with it, motorbike, caught the train etc. fairly solid use.

It definitely has aged but more in a patina way than anything. It’s still tight holds the cards in, functions work. Stitching still good. A couple of indentations from card numbers and a few scratches but it’s mostly good. Can share a pic if you’re interested.

    • I have black sling

very nice, solid quality, if a bit stiff, but finally transferred all the items usually stashed in the pockets to it and find it very useful

wallets are another thing, they don't live very long by definition, so I never buy super expensive ones. all of them look like shit after 6m, 12m tops. I just get funky looking leather ones from Scotch & Soda when they are dirt cheap. good quality and last time I paid like $20

      • My black Country Road wallet that I got nearly 10 years ago still holds up really well and looks good (albeit I have applied leather conditioner to it once or twice during that time).

    • I am on my second Bellroy wallet (same model). The first I bought about 6+ years ago, and it aged beautifully, the leather became smooth with a nice patina. The new one just scratches and looks terrible after about 12 months

      • I wish companies would just focus on product quality instead of virtue-signalling about sustainability.

    • owner of a Hide and Seek. 6 years on and still going strong. Solid wallet definitely buying the same to replace if needed.

    • I've got the slim minimalist wallet and the key ring and I love using it. I got it secondhand from the classifieds section of ozbargain. It holds up quite well. Few scratches on the leather but no major damage to it. I've had it for a year now and it's still going strong. I'm looking at getting the sling bag to avoid putting things in my pocket when I'm riding so I'm still sitting on it.

    • Bellroy is pretty good, but I think they’re starting to fall behind. I see them as a decent premium basics brand with some focus on organisation.

Their leather goods are probably their standout products and they do last if you treat them well. I am still using a few of their leather goods (passport holder and folio). The longest lasting wallet I have though is a wallet from Bottega Veneta in the classic weave and it still looks new after 5 years.

In terms of bags though, I prefer Aer over Bellroy. Better organisation. Build quality is nicer, though I think the cost of Aer is generally higher.

FYI anyone who wanted the classic backpack in black. I was able to call the David Jones customer service line and get put through to a store identified as having stock on this link (https://www.davidjones.com/sale/men/bags/24077552/Classic-Backpack-(Second-Edition)—-Black.html). They were able to find one in store and do it over the phone with the website prices but may or may not charge $10 delivery (they waived it for me).

Cheers. I did the same and found the last one in my local store.

For anyone trying to get free postage with the Card Holder ($48.30), you can pick up a pocket square for $3.50 to bump it over the $50 threshold…

Thanks OP - was looking at the Card Holder specifically for holding business cards and building access passes for when lockdowns end and we start commuting a little more like normal. Couldn't justify the ~$100 price tag, but at this price it is worth a try.

    I love Bellroy products!

I grabbed a Charcoal backpack from EB for $7.50

  • Received my Card Holder.

Not sure why I keep getting suckered into wanting Bellroy products when they are on discount expecting any different. Feels like a cheap pleather $5-10 card holder with magnets. Definitely do not recommend at this price, let alone RRP.
