    i see eneloop i upvote

  • Any good for solar lights?

    • +2

For solar lights I would recommend the non pros, or even the lower capacity ikea Ladda batteries. The higher the capacity the fewer charge cycles they'll tolerate and the worse they'll handle solar lights.

  • The 8 packs are better value. Got a pack of each. Thanks.

    • i wish i got them few months back, they were cheaper :(

      • Cheaper than $15.40/$20.40?

        • did you get that price after cashback?
          i was referring to this

          • @h4zey:

did you get that price after cashback?

Yes this is cheaper after cashback

    These or Trump coin?

      Are TCoins available in Oz?

  • Looks like the fams Christmas presents are sorted.

  • Just an FYI. It's not actually click and collect. Catch still posts the item as normal but to Kmart or Target where you then pick it up once it's delivered.

    • It's click and collect but with extra steps

      • +1

it lots of clicks not just a click

        • Clicks and collect?

      • Ooh la la, someone's going to get laid in college

  • Looking to upgrade the battery in some garden solar lights that take 1.2v nihm AA… anyone tried using eneloops? Seems like overkill for me but i can't really find any cheap alternatives. I used to use Aliexpress but they are all riddled with crazy shipping fees now.

    • +2

Overkill, check out specifically made lower capacity solar batteries
      Eg 12/$19 or 36/$43
      Yes eneloop ARE better.
But you wouldn’t buy a 16 year old single malt to mix with coke now would you either?
      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08Z7751MT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_g…

Also you mention upgrade, if you’re hoping for longer Solar, the issue might be that the available energy from the panel already falls short of the battery capacity, so a larger battery won’t yield any longer or brighter run times

      • Yeah, thanks mate. I was thinking to get higher capacity ones at least over 1000mah though. When i replaced one of the existing ones with a coles rechargeable battery (2200mah) it made a noticeable difference as every day it does not get good sun it seems to have built up a better charge buffer. It's all a crap shoot obviously as the panel and what not die but my experience seems to be its the crap battery that suffers first.

        • +1

          Interesting.
Could be a number of factors:
The fact that it’s brighter, tends to indicate that the battery is charging better as the voltage is higher.
Unless the battery isn’t charging very well and is near the bottom end of its charge cycle, the voltages shouldn’t be an issue.
Summary: likely a crap battery that doesn’t have a good voltage, if it runs any longer could be a bonus.
I wouldn’t put it past the lantern to have old batteries that the supplier sold cheaper, additionally the lantern itself could be old stock (making the battery even older) affecting the chemistry of the battery too.

          • @[Deactivated]: It's not brighter, just lasts longer i think, most noticeable on days where sun is limited it seems to have built up a better charge from the day(s) before when it got better sun. Before the battery swap it might only last 2-3hrs on such a day, now its still going when i go to bed. At least so far. I'm talking about solar string lights, little solar spot lights etc. They all come with 1.2v low mah batteries, as you mentioned likely of quite dubious quality.

I'm quite skeptical about it all really, these things vary in quality so much in general and die just as easily. But either way, reckon battery replacement will be needed so might as well upgrade a bit at the same time. Just need to remember not to throw them out when it does.

  • What is ozbargains obsession with these can someone explain?? Also how do you recharge them, the website says solar recharging, but feel like just putting them in the sun won't do much lol.

    • They’re pretty damn good.
They keep on giving even when they’re lower.
For instance camera flash is a good application.

    • +1

      Well I misread precharged…

  • These are great, +1 on the deal.
For anyone looking for a more cost effective option, e.g. I’m not giving the eneloops to my kids for their toys, Amazon basic batteries 24 packs are quite good value

    • Are these ever sold by Amazon AU? The shipping fees for Amazon USA at the moment kinda kill the value.

      • i also have some amazon basics and are pretty good, but i got them on a trip to the US. Haven't been able to find them here

    • I did think about buying rechargeable for my kids toys bc they won't use the full batt before losing interest, but eneloop seems to be a bit overkill $$. The EBL one on Amazon has decent reviews but the bad ones make me hesitant. Which one were you referring to on Amazon? Is it the nanfu ones?

      • I got them from Amazon US. In a bulk order the economy worked out even with shipping. As I got 24x AA and 24x AAA.
They’re probably very similar, the amazon basics brand just gives me piece of mind.

I got the performance (2000mAh vs 2400, but 1000x charge cycles vs 400).

Amazon Basics 24-Pack AA Rechargeable Batteries, High-Capacity 2,400 mAh Battery, Pre-Charged, Recharge up to 400x

Considering the “good price” for a generic alkaline is about $10/24 or 40c a battery.
A rechargeable that costs between $1-2 depending will be tremendously cheaper, or put simply will have paid itself back after 4-5 uses

  • I remember getting my first Eneloop pro AA batteries for my Nikon Coolpix L820 years ago. Still use them to this day.
Just now ordered AAA ones, for my wireless mouse and Keyboard. Would easily run them for a year without needing to recharge them.

  • Bought non-pro AAA from Amazon for $13.45 on SS from last deal, but the next order the price is jacked up to $18.16, beware.

    • $13.45 is good deal. 8 pack or 4 pack?

      • 4 pack of non-pro AAA

  • 8 pack or 4 pack pro?

Most overrated product in Ozb still going hard lol

Is pro or normal recommended for Xbox controllers?

Anyone using a Nitecore charger for these?

    • +1

As a normal pair of batteries has 40 hours battery life, I’d consider Xbox controllers to be low drain. I would just get the regular AA’s, as they have significantly more charge cycles with only a small drop in capacity.

That being said 1900 charge cycles is overkill, once a week charging would be over 40 years.

    • +1

yeah been charging these with my i4 for years

  • For all your DECT phone charging needs. (just wondering why this is the best marketing they could come up with)

    • For a phone made by Panasonic use these batteries made by Panasonic.

    • Combine with this then

      • That won't work, that Uniden handset uses a battery pack that is made by Uniden. According to the handset's manual, it is expected to last one year, and has a capacity of 300mAh.

I suspect Uniden make most of their profit by selling over-priced replacement battery packs. I've owned Uniden DECT phones before, never again. There was plenty of room to fit battery springs and use AAA NiMh batteries, had they molded the plastic differently. The choice to use a battery pack was deliberate lock-in.

  • That's why the $5 bonus cashback ran out so quickly.

  • Anyone used these as a mild upgrade for an electric nerf blaster?

  • The last time I got the eneloops from Catch(official), they would only charge to 300mah instead of 1900mah. I've always used an XTAR VC4 with the eneloops. None of the other bought from Amazon etc degraded like this.

any smart charger recommendations? looking for one that chargers most batteries (ideally aa, aaa + others) which has a capacity limit reader. budget around $50 but preferably on sale. also it must be able to charge any brand of batteries; not just 1 charger to charge its own specific batteries.

befpre3 anyone says "look at older posts", I have gone through the past 10 posts and there are good and bad things that i read about. nitecore d4 sounds good but have heard mixed reviews.

    • I've been eyeing up a Nitecore D4 or other model - haven't pulled the trigger yet as I was looking into which models have a battery "conditioning" function and whether that's worth it.

    • Also why I'm holding off - no idea what charger to get

  • Will these batteries recharge in my steam controller when plugged in?

    • I don't think so

      • It would be cool if it did, because I don't want to buy a specialized charger.

  • If anyone wants to use Unidays code. I got one unused.

  • Bugger, 4 pack pro sold out

What's the difference between these and the Ikea ones?

Can anyone provide insight into this?

I have bought both but am intrigued how there is always a comment where the Ikea ones are eneloops but relabelled

The Ikea ones are significantly cheaper too
