Prebuilt PC from Aftershock - Good Value at $5k in Current Market?

ASUS TUF Ryzen 7 5800X | RTX 3080 $4,990.00

I am in the market for a full upgrade to my PC, seems like these are quality parts and using pcpartpicker it comes out to easily over $5000, vs the $4990 from the site.

What do you guys think?

Compared to say, this from pcbyte.

IMHO, it's honestly not bad. Has a high end card and is certainly a neat build. Some points to consider:

    • The specs list doesn't tell you the speed of the RAM e.g. DDR4-3200 or -3600. 4x8GB sticks will mean having to purchase a new RAM kit when you want to upgrade in future.
    • The specs list also doesn't provide much information on your storage. So no information on speed, generation, or quality/ reputation.
    • You can generally pick up components cheaper than listed on PCpartpicker. For example, that motherboard can be bought for $40 less today, and (depending on your level of trust with these things) the GPU can be purchased off FB Marketplace today for $2100.

That said, you are getting a complete set-up that you can use within a week, as opposed to slowly accumulating components, before trying to build it yourself (which is where I'm at). Plus, you have the safety that a warranty from a pre-built system will provide. If that's worth the extra $500 - $800 to you, then I say go for it,

    • Sorry, just saw that the SSD is Gen 4, so that's nice. Still no information on speed, brand etc.

      • its the 1tb Aorus 5000MB/s. RAM is what I assumed in my other comment.

    • I believe the RAM is 3600mhz cl18, but have asked for a full specs list from them. (32gb RAM should last me well into 5+ years.)

Storage is ehhh to me, very easy to swap out, or use if its fine (again, waiting to see the part they select.)

As for price most of the components listed are lowest, and Id rather stay away from FB marketplace for warranty reasons.

I think I'm close to buying it once I have the full part list. Given I may be waiting 3+ months to get the rest of my parts here for a build i had planned (which price wise will actually be slightly higher) the 'instant build' fee to buy the prebuilt seems reasonable.

      • Both prices are reasonable given the market. Personal preference, I would go with the Aftershock.

      • Completely reasonable. If I hadn't set up a project for a friend and I to build mine, I'd certainly be looking at it.

For 5k you would want a 3090, the specs do not match the price

    • Genuine question: Where can you find a sub 5k prebuilt with a good 3090 with the rest of the components being great quality, such as this one?

The only thing I would change would be the cooler (I just dont know much about it) and the storage (which performance-wise is marginally worse than a 980 pro)

As for specs not matching the price it is sub 400 getting the rest of the components individually at the lowest prices where I live (WA)

  • Aftershock is overpriced. Look at BPC.

I literally just did a comparison on aftershock vs BPC for a mate last week. BPC for the same price offered a 3070 for aftershock’s 3060.

Reasons to pick the BPC build
    3080ti vs 3080
Good tier NVME - Samsung 980 pro
Intel vs AMD. if it’s gaming you’re after, Intel normally has the lead. If you are doing multi core work AMD would be superior.
2x16gb RAM vs 4x8gb gives the option to upgrade to 64gb if you are in need.
    Corsair RM1000x PSU vs 850W

    • Zen 3 matches or beats Intel in gaming, so it depends on which one you can get cheaper these days

  • @Notstingey
Very curious to hear which way you go mate.
I am in a similar situation myself. What are you planning to do with this pc?

    • @Collie302 I managed to nab a EVGA 3080ti from PLE from todays deal ( good price). Also nabbed some good RAM and an NVME this week from deals, so that locks in building my own (which I actually wanted to do more anyway because I can guarantee my part selections.)

To be honest, I was waiting for the Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme 3080 to arrive at PLE (2 weeks if you want the info for yourself, theyre getting 1 card only) for $2169. But I only found that out today, so I'm glad I didnt bite the bullet on the prebuilt.

The thing is I dont think either of those prebuilts I listed are THAT bad compared to sourcing parts individually in this market. So as other commenters have said, it really does come down to your time frame for needing a pc (I can wait for parts/new releases) and cash available (which wasn't an issue.

go the bpctech build that other guy listed in the comments.

      hope this helped.

ps this is the build im going to be going with: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/xMNqcT
