[SA, VIC] India Gate Exotic Basmati Rice 5kg $13 (Was $20) @ Coles

220

One of OzBargain's favourite rice, India Gate.

This deal could be SA and Vic exclusive. Please check your local Coles

Price isn't as good as it was on the 17th of September when it was $9 (I bought two bags :P), however if you're running low and want a good rice this is a good deal.

Just a thought, but what do people add to their rice when they cook it?
I normally add some olive oil and salt, but last night my girlfriend cooked the rice and added butter and salt, and I have to say the butter just made it sooooo good!

    Link dead.

    • Hmm it's working on my end in Opera and Chrome. Maybe try another browser?

      • +1

Chrome here. Searching via google does the same. Could be a state issue, I'm in NSW.

        • Ah right, yeah that's probably it. I'll update the post to only SA and for other state OzBargainers to check their local store

Is that really good rice or affordable rice ๐Ÿ˜œ

    • +1

affordable. IT's what we serve to peasants

    • From reading OzBargain comments India Gate is a good brand rice, however I'm not sure on what end of the scale this particular India Gate rice sits on.

      • +1

I've never tried their Exotic rice, but based on other comments and price I'd say it sits right at the bottom.

        • Ah cool. Guess I'll be trying out the others! :)

    • India Gate Premium is the best IMO.

      • +3

        Classic is the best

Others are ordinary long grain rice

        • might try that. Have you actually compared the 2?

          • +1

@gadget: I've tried both, premium is good, but Classic is worth paying a bit extra for. I just wish Costco would stock it instead of the premium.

      • Agree I always buy premium and donโ€™t find much of a difference between premium and classic.

    Real long grain?

Those who are in Sydney, cheaper at a Lidcombe store

You should post that as a deal, I'd upvoted it :)

Try classic than you never look other brand bit expensive but once you try you stop every other rice definitely

If you have kids definitely they won't say no to this rice ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

    $14 at Woolworths

You should post it as a deal so you get the credit, I'd up vote it :)

Thanks for posting the deal. Haven't seen this rice discounted in Coles, only seen discounted in Woolworths.
When I cook I add a bit of turmeric powder & a little coconut oil. I read somewhere adding oil to rice while cooking increase the resistant starch content of the rice, not sure about the authenticity.

    • I've added tumeric powder to rice for curries, but I've never added coconut oil, will have to give it a try! :)

Classic is the best, telling you from experience.

  • India Gate exotic okay for everyday use but overall not so exotic. The one in woolworths branded "TAJ" is comparable to IndiaGate Classic and is awesome.

  • From many comments on OzBargain it seems that the Classic is the better one. Does that ever go on sale from Coleworths?
