  • When did massdrop go full mech keyboards and headphones? I remember they used to sell heaps of stuff, outdoors, gadgets etc.

    • +3

Covid forced them to consolidate due to lack of demand, alongside cost of warehousing and shipping these other items.

In this price range, way better off with the AKG K612 Pro or the HIFIMAN HE400SE. They're both vastly better headphones for gaming, and more technically performant for music.

You can get a good lav mic for $10-$15 (Boya BY-M1) if you don't have or want a desk mic.

PC38X has poor imaging, makes them useless for the intended purpose. Read/watch the reviews from Resolve and Crinacle, hell read Crinacle's gaming audio guide.

jasswolf is right, don't know why this would get neg votes

      • +1

Yeah, jasswolf is right and I personally wouldn't pick up the PC38X when the K612 Pro can be picked up at a similar price.

I use the K712 Pro personally with a Shure MV7 microphone on PC but there are users out there who just want a no fuss all in one solution and while quality isn't as good as the above options it's still a better option than many of the headsets in our local retail stores.

It's also convenient cause it comes with two cables, one for PC use and a shorter 4 pole option that makes it perfectly usable for console gaming too (plugged into controller).

I'd just direct them to the Cooler Master MH751 @ $70ish or MH752 @ $80ish then - those being sale pries - but otherwise steer them towards the Koss KSC75X when it's on sale from Drop if they want a well-tuned open back with good imaging, and a mic.

Minor resolution downgrade, but a good interim solution while bluetooth headphones make the leap in terms of mic quality and low latency capability.

It's just not worth getting cheap open backs most of the time, and not even Sennheiser are nailing that right now. Interested to see if they can turn the HD 560S into a cheaper headset with a mic.

    • How are these in the same price range… You need to get a mic and a dac/amp to compare with the sennheiser since most people wont have one when they are looking at a headset.

      • Want, not need, and the $180 purchase doesn't become a waste of money over time.

        • You will need for a pair of headphones at 280ohms… i know it isn't a waste of money over time but that's why people buy headsets they are cheaper -.- if people tell them to buy a pair of headphones without explaining they will need to spend more money cause the headphones will be quiet on a motherboards soundboard then its misleading what if they didn't have the money be a real punch in the balls.
it isn't common knowledge that people need other equipment for headphones.

          • @bubblelolz: Neither headphone is low sensitivity, so they won't be quiet, they'll just have issues in the bass and upper treble, making them sound a bit dead.

What's misleading is how you think impedence curves work, and explaining that as fact.

            • @jasswolf: "they'll just have issues in the bass and upper treble, making them sound a bit dead."?
so you need need a dac/amp as if people want shitty sound on a good pair of headphones. all I'm saying is its just more money wouldn't have an issue if this was explained.

              • -1

@bubblelolz: You're exaggerating my claims to suit your argument. Plug some similar headphones into a smartphone, they will produce audio better than crappier lower impedance, higher sensitivity headphones.

The improved DAC & amp will improve performance, to an extent. It's still a way better starting point (with a cheap mic) than the PC38X, which is a headphone that will not improve with better gear, and doesn't even suit its purpose (gaming).

Not going to reply any further on the matter, it's a non-starter for me as a headphone or headset.

Can get an additional 10% off with code "10OFF" bringing it down to $116.10

awful color scheme ruined an otherwise a decent headset

Apparently USPS has suspended deliveries to Australia https://about.usps.com/newsroom/service-alerts/international…

    • Dang. I have some headphone cables from Hart Audio in the mail and it looks like they are stuck in Chicago. When I track it on the USPS website it says "Your item arrived in Chicago post office and is ready for pickup.". I am pretty sure I will not be able to pick it up from there.

I think Massdrop uses DHL (economy service though, gets transferred to AusPost once it touches down Australia), should still run albeit really slow. Even slower than usual USPS parcel from memory. But again, Covid makes Express AusPost feels like normal service, so….

      • +1

Yeah the current problem is the Melbourne gateway is where international parcels go to die, so after this comes into Sydney, it goes into a black hole for SA, TAS and VIC customers.

      • It's DHL through the US, which then connects with AusPost when it hits Sydney. DHL has the odd delay in sorting centres in the US at the moment, but nothing like the USPS drama.

With respect to what happens once it gets here, this is relevant info: https://auspost.com.au/service-updates/current-updates/inter…

TAS, SA and VIC customers are affected by the Melbourne Gateway issues at present.

    • Not relevant for Drop.
