Thoughts on Inspiron 15? (Moving from MacBook)

I am currently a MacBook user but need to upgrade.

I was thinking of switching to a Windows laptop to save money. Maybe with bash on windows (ubuntu) for development.

Thoughts on this laptop - https://deals.dell.com/en-au/productdetail/alup ?

Tech Specs

The MacBook equivalent with 16GB memory seems to be atleast a grand more.

Coming from a macbook, if it's anything recent you will find the screen a big let down when it comes to display quality and peak brightness, also build quality along the Inspiron lines isn't their strong suit. It's decent performance in a budget build.

I would recommend an XPS if you want that premium Macbook feel with windows OS. I have two XPS 9310's at home in the family and they are both flawless. As usual though you will read bad reviews on most things and Dell cops a heap because incidentally they also sell a heap.

XPS lines have amazing displays with 500 nits brightness and a much higher quality case material.

That being said, don't stress RAM on the new M1 Macbooks either, as they utilise it differently due to the new ARM architecture. Many reviews have shown that 8GB is more than enough for the majority of people on them.

    • Thanks. The 8GB would be a good saving. I will take another look at the Macbooks

    • Might look at the MacBook Air as well. it seems to be much better priced the the MacBook Pro

Yep and again if you look at reviews, the power of the M1 in the air almost makes the pro obsolete with most people’s computing power requirements.
