Where to Buy Glacial Acetic Acid in SA Wholesale?

Hi,

I'm looking to kill off weeds that are on my property and would prefer to do this using acetic acid, rather than products such as Round Up (due to glyphosate being a potential carcinogen). Ideally I'd like to purchase Glacial Acetic Acid in bulk and then dilute it to be able to use it multiple times. Is there anywhere in Adelaide or SA that deals with members of the public selling this at wholesale prices which can be picked up or delivered?

TIA

  • This is a drug precursor and may not be sold to non account customers.

Is it? From my sources, anything below 30% in concentration is not regulated.

      • If you read the post the ask is for Glacial Acetic Acid which is 100%.

Maybe the post was edited. But would you care to point out where it says "100%"? One of us needs an appointment at the optometrist :)

    • I can assure you (and them), that I have no plans for using it for anything else other than to kill weeds. Any recommendations about what % can be sold over the counter to non account holder customers?

Yea right, that's exactly what Walter White said

Thank you for likening me to a character out of Breaking Bad, but my qualifications have a Biological background, not a Chemical background. I'd be more likely to create a fire/explosion as I have NFI about that sort of stuff.

            @savemore: Calm down Heisenberg, I'm sure it's a joke.

It's also why a lot of chemicals are heavily regulated.

  • Slasher? It's Nonanoic acid
Dont ask me what that is though. I have used it multiple times with great success.

You can get 20l of industrial cleaning vinegar which is 20% acetic acid here (https://www.bulkwholesale.com.au/product/bulkwholesale-clean…) for $99 plus $20 delivery to SA.

    • Dixi Cuka Makan is 25% $4 for 650ml.

  • The MSDS for glacial acetic acid states:
Danger! Causes severe eye and skin burns. Causes severe digestive and respiratory tract burns. Flammable liquid and vapor. May be harmful if absorbed through the skin. Glacial acetic acid solidifies below 62°F (17°C). Corrosive to metal.
Target Organs: Teeth, eyes, skin, mucous membranes.
    Potential Health Effects
Eye: Causes severe eye irritation. Contact with liquid or vapor causes severe burns and possible irreversible eye damage.
Skin: Causes skin burns. May be harmful if absorbed through the skin. Contact with the skin may cause blackening and hyperkeratosis of the skin of the hands.
Ingestion: May cause severe and permanent damage to the digestive tract. Causes severe pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and shock. May cause polyuria, oliguria (excretion of a diminished amount of urine in relation to the fluid intake) and anuria (complete suppression of urination). Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Inhalation: Effects may be delayed. Causes chemical burns to the respiratory tract. Exposure may lead to bronchitis, pharyngitis, and dental erosion. May be absorbed through the lungs.
Chronic: Chronic exposure to acetic acid may cause erosion of dental enamel, bronchitis, eye irritation, darkening of the skin, and chronic inflammation of the respiratory tract. Acetic acid can cause occupational asthma. One case of a delayed asthmatic response to glacial acetic acid has been reported in a person with bronchial asthma. Skin sensitization to acetic acid is rare, but has occurred.

So I reckon that Round Up looks like a pretty safe option.

      Pretty much general BS

Glacial acetic acid is just anhydrous (ie pure CH3COOH) and completely unnecessary for your purposes, especially if you plan to just add water to it anyway.

I guarantee that purchasing significant quantities of this will draw the attention of authorities.

I used this for old style photo/film processing ——- in a "stop bath" it halts the film deveiopment process, in the past it was sold by Kodak without any particular official restrictions apart from do not drink!.

    • Like your name 😎

You can buy it at places like Asis Scientific at Hindmarsh, but that is AR grade and expensive, you need a lower commercial grade, seeing as your'e going to dilute it anyway.

  • Buy vinegar?
