No-name brand, only sold by King of Knives — they tend to inflate the RRP on their in-house brands to meaningless levels. Probably a rebadge of some cheap Chinese knives, as most of the in-house King of Knives brands are.

Only review on the web about this brand doesn't inspire much confidence, either: http://www2.everybody.co.nz/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2180…

Just before Xmas DH bought us a decent set of Shilling knives, which were on sale (1/2 price), from a specialised knife shop… And I finally got to use them, and discovered that one of them was bent on the end… I took it back to the store with the receipt. They claimed we'd damaged it, so didn't want to know… There is still a bit of a crocked bit on the end, and it just isn't the quality knife which we expected.

    • hey soakwashrinsespin,

thanks for going to the trouble of putting in all that info, i would have considered buying this one otherwise. having said that, can you suggest what i should get if i want just a chef's knife? i'd rather spend the whole $40 - $50 on a chef's knife, rather than a set any way. i've looked around (on the net) and the 8" ones are the standard size it seems. do you have any suggestions for the price range i'm looking at?

      cheers.

  • design is stolen from scanpan knives, steel grade not specified. definite junk alert.

  • Best knives I have used are the Wusthof Classic range. They have the 8' chefs knife on Amazon for $119.95 (not incl delivery). I am waiting for them to have a deal on this one…

  • We were given two Shilling knives for Christmas, a 8" Slicer and a 7" Santoku and so far they have been great, sharpest knives I've ever used. The box says they are made from German steel, I can't find the booklet that they came with, I'm sure it would have more info in it about them.

  • Hey - just a quick post to say thank you to everyone for your suggestions on what to look for. I appreciate the effort you made and it adds to the Ozbargain community feeling I visit this site for.

    Cheers.
