Hit Medicare Safety Net - How to Make The Most of It

Hi all

Our family hit the extended medicare safety net amount due to high medical expenses so far this year, we now get 80% back for out of pocket costs for the rest of the calendar year.

Just looking for ideas for the remaining 3 and a bit months for things that could be useful to do that usually cost a fair bit that we could take advantage of

Ideas so far:

Skin check follow up
Eye test follow up
Sleep Study?
See my psychologist more (like once a week as they're really helping)
Couples Councelling? Not sure if medicare covered

Not sure if i've missed anything.

Thanks

looking at using it for things i would do over the next year or so anyway, just bringing it forward to this calendar year as it will cost less

Skin check, what would be the follow up be ?
      Eye Test follow up ?
Otherwise like @supasaiyan wrote, only do what needed, the system is there for other that need it.

    Skin check follow up
    Eye test follow up

Are you insane if you need it go get it, if not what's the point.

    Sleep Study?

Not covered unless you are eligible, and it's fully covered if you are.

See my psychologist more (like once a week as they're really helping)

I thought this isn't covered except as part of one of two plans?

Couples Councelling? Not sure if medicare covered

And this is why our Medicare bills are so high.

    Don't abuse the system.
It's there to support people, not be rorted.

Just bring forward stuff that you're going to do in the next year, anyway. Except, maybe cremation or amputating stuff. That you can leave as long as possible.

Don't look for stuff that doesn't have to be done, that way madness lies.

Reading back through your previous posts you're having a rough trot this year. To reach the threshold means you're enduring more than usual medi-expenses. Hopefully you wouldn't want to incur more even if medicare pays 80%.

One surgery I had in my adult years I should have brought well forward was a tonsillectomy. Tonsillitis 4 or 5 times a year growing up is not good.

How about get your brain checked your tax rorting expletive

This is not something to use just because you get 80% back.
but if you do want to use it get permanent birth control

Try to catch COVID to really get your money's worth. Should be easy, you're in Sydney. /s

Can't believe I'm even reading this thread, given the situation the healthcare system is in right now. This is how you get bad karma, people. Get done what you NEED, and nothing more.

  • I'm more amazed by how you could have so much time to do all the test.
Couple counselling? Jeez, I don't even have time to watch a movie with my wife bcos we need to work our ass off.

I guarentee 90% of these replys vote libreral or have rotted brains on Today/Tonight or A Current Affair. Individuals trying to maxmise savings on medicare is not "abusing the system" "rorting" or even "spending my tax dollars", or as u/Draksey's utterly brain-dead hot take is "why our Medicare bills are so high.", not even close. Australia is somewhat efficient in it's medicare spending (not the best, not the worst) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylsO0VVy29U

But I guess you got to hate the poors somehow. And casting yourself as a taxpayer has always been as successful tactic.
