Job Application Asking for Drivers Licence

I have been looking at a couple jobs (Security Guard) on Seek, after sending my resume they come back with an email asking me to provide copies of my drivers licence and security licence. My current employer has both of these but I feel comfortable with giving them this info since I have already met with them in person.

Should I be a bit suspicious about handing over copies of my licences? The emails always say provide these details to go any further with the application.

Simple. Dont like it, dont do it. Look for job elsewhere.

Its not like you are being randomly asked by someone to give you these details. Surely you have researched the company to see if they are legit and above board.

If you don't like it move along to a company that doesn't ask for it. Eventually they will though!

Wouldn't they need to see these in order to confirm things like a background check etc?? Does the job involve driving?

Yeah but probably something you'd ask for after having at least one interview with the candidate.

  • Is it a well known company?

Imagine your paranoia levels if you get the job and they ask for your bank details so they can pay you.

      Guess you missed this part

My sympathies. Reading is hard, I agree

Im surprised so many are happy to hand over their licenses to randoms these days.

like the old days of having to hand over credit card details as proof of age on porn sites.. SO I hear.

If it's an email from the employer, just blur our the exact numbers and leave your name and expiry date.

It would be standard if they link you to a 3rd party background/police check where you have to upload your driver's licence/passport etc.

Just send them what they want but get on MS paint or whatever and stamp it with something like “for xxxx use in Sep 2021, void for any other use”. I do this all the time.

    • Thanks for this

Despite the watermark, with the driver license number, expiry date, name and dob, lots of government websites' login and password can be reset.

Your call - you either want the job or you don't

They may want to do a police check as part of their recruitment process. This will cost them $$$. Maybe you are on their shortlist. Why not ask them. Expressing the right amount of caution might raise your chance of employment with them.
